Default Dead Fuel Pump

OKay, so my car died (02 V6 Camaro) wouldn't turn over so I pushed it to the Car-X a block away and they quoted me 1400.00 to replace the fuel pump assembly. Is this as major of a rape job as I suspect, and if it is, what price should i expect to run to get the problem fixed?

Part store pricing as approx $370 for the pump.
Labor is approx 4 hrs..... so yes you are getting screwed.

So looking around I have found the OEM replacements to be more expensive than performance alternatives. So am I wondering if I should just go with an aftermarket fuel pump or with an OEM being only a 6 cylinder.

$1400 is a rip off, i work at a gm dealership and it doesn't cost that much. maybe they included some service work in the est. i would go with a gm pump and i would also replace the fuel filter.

They're raping you without lube!!! haha!!! What's their labor rate 300/hr.? They saw you pushing your car in and knew that they could sell you pretty much whatever at whatever price.... Sad part about some shops...

If the symptom was "it wouldn't turn over" why are they quoting a fuel pump?

I offer a performance replacement for much less than that. Just remember the v6 sender is different than the V8 one.

If you wish to have a shop fix it, have them give me a call. I can provide a Racetronix kit for much less money than either GM or the local parts store can.

You can do it yourself. I got a walbro off of ebay for under $100 and did it myself in my driveway. It'll take you all day, just find someone in your area that's done it before and have them help you.

Okay, so I am thinking about doing it all myself and was wondering how the V6 would deviate from the writeups on the sticky about how to replace the fuel pump for the LS1

Heres a writeup I did a while back when I was swapping my fuel pump. I dont know if there are any significant differences for a 6cyl, but its got all the major points. Just make sure to give yourself a day or two to do it if youve never done it before.
