Default Bad Fuel Pump?

Hey everyone. My Camaro recently started hesitating during hard acceleration and sometimes it wont start or it will die at an idle. Sometimes when I start it, it will run rough and I can smell fuel and the rpm's wont climb past 3500. Every time I accelerate fast, my car hesitates at 3300-3500rpm's. It has new spark plugs and wires, new fuel filter, and new coil packs. I did a fuel pressure test and these were my results...

Key on without engine running: 22psi
Key on with engine running: bouncing around from 20-25psi

The Haynes manual I have says I should be around 41-47psi. Bad fuel pump? Bad fuel pressure regulator? Is there a way to test which is bad for sure?

Thanks in advance!

i had a similar prob. my walbro only had like 2k miles but i bought a new walbro gss 342 fuel pump. when installed, i still had "0" pressure. mechanic said it was bad too. i couldnt believe it so i filled like a 10 gallon jug with some gas and had the entire fuel pump and regulator submerged in the jug. it was the regulator. gas was coming out there threw several areas resulting in the loss of pressure. i had my 2k mile pump put back in and now i am stuck with "0" miles walbro gss 342 fuel pump. hope this helps.

So it ended up being the fuel pressure regulator?

yeap but that is what i thought of to test the fuel pumps and regulator.......you have new plugs, wires, filter and even coli packs. what else is there besides the fuel pump and regulator. test like i did and when you find out what exactly it is, buy that part. fortunately i just sold my extra new pump....good luck....rob

Thanks. I ordered a pump today. It's an Airtex and I was told to stay away from that brand. That's all I could find though so hopefully it works ok.

No it did not. Sounds like your car is getting too much fuel if you're puffing smoke and it smells like gas.

"im running into similar problems but mine is smoking and stinks like fuel"

Reg test: Pull the vac line off, and see if there's fuel in it.
That WILL cause the stink, black smoke and fubar plugs..
