Default what fuel cooler?

Im running a 4301 magnafuel pump, Ive heard from a couple people that without a fuel cooler the fuel gets hot and vapor locks the pump. I have been looking at the barry grant heat sink from jegs, what are you guys running or what would you recommend. thanks

I've got internal pumps, but wanted a fuel cooler anyway. It's mounted where the stock fuel filter goes and fits like a glove. Flex-a-Lite Fuel Cooler, Part # 4136

High hp fuel systems circulate fuel through the fuel rails on a hot engine and then back to the tank. After some time on the street the entire tank will rise in temperature. The pumps themselves also transfer heat to the fuel. Internal pumps are immersed in fuel to keep cool. External pumps run hotter with just ambient air to cool them.

Some hp is lost due to high fuel temperature. If fuel is allowed to reach the boiling point it will turn to a vapor causing fluctuations in fuel pressure. Hot fuel evaporates at a higher rate not only causing pollution but creating more of a fuel smell.

There's no other way to combat heat build up in a full return style street car. Circulating fuel through hot fuel rails will add heat, period.

The only way to minimize it is to do what GM does and return the fuel before it gets to the engine. I'd be curious to see if an engine could still reliably make 800+ hp and return fuel before the rails.

white01 you got any pics of your setup? ive been thinking about adding one also because of how close my TDs are to my lines. For $40 im sure it couldnt hurt to throw in there if it isnt too big a deal. Im putting an oil cooler on also so i might as well cool all my fluids lol

My Barry Grant Fuel cooler dropped my temps almost 20 degrees on my return system. noticed the increased temps after installing the custom fuel system!!

Just use whatever cooler you have room for and is safe.

Never install it on the high pressure side though. Always on the low pressure return.

Not now, but I'll post it up when I get one. It's tucked in with the fuel filter. The filter's on the feed side and the cooler's on the return side. The shop I went to did a tidy job of it.

white01ss, are you running fans on the cooler? That fuel filter area doesn't see much air flow, especially in stop and go traffic.

No fan. So yeah, sitting at a light it's not doing much of anything.

My shop said the air under the car is so turbulent that a fan or even position of the cooler wouldn't matter. Since I have no before/after fuel temp sensor I really have no idea how well it's cooling. A fan or air scoop might make it work better, but I haven't tried them.
