Default I need help quickly!!! URGENT

ok i hate to post another starter problem but i dont have a lot of cash to be buying multiple parts so i need to be sure to diagnosis the problem the first time.

1993 camaro lt1 110,3XX miles

I just had the starter and battery replaced in May of this year.

The car sat for a week and then last night i went to start it and it started but it was kinda weak. (I noticed to that for the past couple months the colder the weather on a cold start the rougher and weaker the start was.) i drove home which was a couple miles and i ran inside to grab some things and came out to start the car and all i got was click click click click click click..

the dash volt meter read +/- 10.5. When i went to turn it over i hear the click and the volt meter shoots down.

I have also had a problem where i was at a gas station couple months ago and i turned the key back just to keep the radio on and when i went to start the car it barely turned and then just clicked...i waited 10 mins turned it over and it was weak but did start. this happened two more times from then to now.

i had the battery checked this morning and it tested fine. Can someone please help. I NEED my car! thanks

This problem seems like a dying alternator to me. If your battery tests ok, and your starter is new, yet you are having weak starts (symptom of low voltage), the alternator would be the first thing I would have checked. The exact same thing happened to me 6 months ago (99 S10), replaced the alternator and haven't had a single issue since. Just my opinion. Good luck on getting it sorted out!

when they tested the battery what was the report it printed out for them, as it can have perfect voltage when they read it, but the charge level can be dead.

alternators bad.

some stuff to know. if you can jump start a car and it keeps running for an extended period, and then you shut the car off and it won't start back up, the battery is bad.

it is crucial when they test the battery to know all the information on that test.

what is your battery voltage (BRAND NEW) when the NEW battery is in the car?
what is your battery voltage with the CAR OFF, with your lights on BRIGHT?
what is your battery voltage with the CAR RUNNING?
what is your battery voltage with the CAR RUNNING with LIGHTS ON BRIGHT?

^^^^^^ exactly what Zl1Killa said. Also...if your depending on the local Vato zone to do your testing or your electrical parts...dont. Find a reputable independant auto repair shop to properly diagnose your car. What cify are you in?

You can try to jump it and it still wont start. The connections have to be good. hook the connections up then start the car you are using to jump your vehicle. Let it run for a few minutes and then try to start it.

Starters crank slow from low voltage. Low voltage from either weak/dead battery or high resistance in the battery cable.

Basically Im saying have the battery checked. I see batteries fail more commonly than starters.

As a automotive technician I say take the battery and have someone with expertise test it.parts people most of the times are morons. From what your saying sounds like a bad battery. At what amperage did they do the load test? Make sure your grounds are good as well. Its always possible the newer starter is worn out.you could have it bench tested.but from the sounds of it and with the time of year and your location I'm willing to bet its the battery. A battery can still some times test good with a shorting cell. Maybe pick up a cheap battery hydrometer

Sounds to me exactly like a dead battery. Get your battery checked by something that will actually generate an actual load, that way you will really be able to tell if the battery is bad. but yes its the battery.

See but the thing is now as America is getting stupid, they have this little thingy that tells you everything and it load tests the battery and can tell you the voltage and the "cell charge" so they call it. So as long as they have that or similar tool it really doesn't matter where you go.

chances are if you put a new battery in and it still won't start and all you hear is clicking, you have a bad starter.

now another thing could be if you do get a new battery and new starter and it happens again within several weeks/month, you have a bad ground.

Good find. glad it can be fixed.

Really? If thats true then they should shut down every indy repair shop and everyone could just go to vato zone and have your car diagnosed...
