Default Walbro install on 99 T/A (Special Trap Door)

I finally decided to bite the bullet and install a fuel pump. My buddy was over and we actually hinged a fuel door in his car so we could change the fuel level sending unit.

After seeing how easy that was I decided to cut a trap door in my car as well.I had been thinking about a quick access door. We already had some scrap pieces of metal from above the fuel tank to make the panels. With my car we put in 4 spring loaded dzus fasteners to hold the door down and keep it sealed. I drove out to Saturday night meet and had no fume issues and the tank was full.

Looks great! Glad to see you also used a seal under the lid to keep out potential moisture and fumes.

Great pics!! When I need to do this to mine the pics will definitely help. What kind of wheel/shear did you use to cut? I want something that will cut pretty easily, like hot knife through butter style.

I used a dremel on the pewter T/A and went REALLY REALLY slow, so I didnt nick any of the wires. There isnt much room between the tank and body panels.

I didnt do the hot wire kit yet, but I think I will just fab up my own. Since the battery is already in the back of the car, it wouldnt be that hard to just install a Bosch style relay and 20 amp fuse.

looks awesome! wish i wouldve done that. did my install when i had the rear end out...so it was right there.

also-ive heard of people running 255lph pumps on the stock wiring and burning them up. I think a hotwire kit is a good mod to keep the pump performing well.
