Gas gauge reads empty or full only... Lonnie's dual pump kit HELP
I tried calling Lonnie yesterday, seems his phone was off.
Anyway I can't get this right. The pump(s) run though. At first I couldn't get anything but a FULL gas gauge. I multimetered the connector (tank side) and was getting like 5ohms (tank was near empty) so nothing wrong with the sender itself. I made some junk wires and grounded to the body and touched them to the harness connector (body side) and got EMPTY. So gauge appears to be working. I then made some more junk wires, jammed in the connector (tank side), and touched the harness connector (body side) and got empty again. So since my tank is basically empty I assumed the connector was bad (pins pushed in or whatever). I scavenged my old connector (from the OEM sender) and cut and soldered it into place. After I did that, now the tank always reads empty even though I put some gas in the tank.... 26 ohms now which is about 1/4 tank.
So why did the connector that came with the kit register ohms correctly but when plugged in the gauge returned "full" and then when I soldered the OEM connector on and it registered ohms correctly and plug it in the gauge always returns "empty". I'm totally stumped here. Only thing that I can think is bad is that harness connector itself (black piece that is in the floor pan).
These are the parts in question I've been dealing with:
Also I did test the sending unit EXTENSIVELY outside the car and it works.

Spoke w/ you today, but never had a message from you yesterday.
Did you do any additional tests on the car side of the connector?
The sender & harness works, but the car does not seem to get the signal.
Also check the large ground wire under the car.... with this being a possible bad connection, the pump load could draw on the factory ground circuit. Check this connection.

We already explained to you in an e-mail that switching the wires will not work. It is a resistor not a diode or battery. The only solution is to be able to change the direction so that the resistance goes up and down in the proper direction.
