Question Will driving on 1/4 tank or less cause you to go Lean??

My friend burnt a piston in his P1SC vette and some people told him that it happened because he ran the car with under 1/4 tank of gas
I have never heard this. Is it possible???

I went to the track with just under a quarter tank in my c5 to save weight,,,,, you could literally feel the car die (kind of like traction control) if you launched it hard. I could not figure out waht was going on, I thought I was gettting knock. I went and filled up and came back right back to the track and knocked .4 of my et.

Something with the vette fuel system and the dual tanks that lets the fuel slosh around.

the pump does not sit directly at the bottom of the tank. The F-body gas tank and a sump kinda built it, the pump sits in a box that is designed to hold gas around the pump.

However if you are driving with that little bit of gas it is not a good thing. I had a buddy with a GN and his cat wasnt driving right, we went back to billy dukes shop and billy told him to go get gas and that cured\
sorry so long

your playing with fire running under 1/4 tank in a supercharged/turbo application.

you can "run the bucket dry" if that is possible on a C5, not sure the design of the tanks on those cars, but i know other cars ,like mustangs it is a problem with.

I fill my car at 1/4 tank anyway, so i have never worried about it, as the f-cars the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel.

Hard launches will cause low fuel to swish away from the fuel pump pickup.

What is even worse is corners. If you corner hard with low fuel, there is a much greater risk the fuel pickup will run dry.

This is an even larger problem if you have a walbro in the tank and are not using the stock style "sump"
