Default Car takes two prime cycles to start

I am running a 2004 Gen III LS6 in my 1968 Corvette. I have the Holley in-tank fuel pump without a return line. The car wont start when I prime it once but fires right up when I prime it a second time. I connected a fuel pressure gauge before and after the rail to check fuel pressure at both. When I prime the car it primes to 64 psi while the pump is running but as soon as it stops it drops back to 50 psi.

Is this normal? Is there an adjustment to be made? It seems obvious that the 50 psi is not enough to start the car. Should I not let the prime completely stop and try starting it with the pump running?

It is possible that the anti drain back check valve allows too much back flow leakage down the fuel line to the tank.

Hello,

For me, its built into the top of my in-tank Walbro fuel pump. You might have to call Holley for some advice on your pump.
