What is the typical cost to have a shop replace a fuel pump?
Basically for the past several months I have to crank the ignition a few times to get the car to start. Usually it takes alot more cranking when the weather is hot. Nonetheless the car always starts after a few cranks so its not really a big deal. I brought it to the mechanic yesterday and he said that the seals on the fuel pump are bad and thus it is not holding pressure in the lines.
I really don't have the time or space to fix this myself so I wanted to know what it typically costs to have this fixed including the pump itself. If I don't fix it am I doing any damage to anything else (like the starter by cranking more)?

I paid $427 Yesterday for an install of a Racetronix fuel pump. But Horsepower costs $$$ so I didnt mind, plus the pump is an upgrade from the stock one, so you get what you pay for.

Yea, they charge a fortune. I had mine replaced in my '95 TA and the dealerships wanted too much so I talked the head mechanic at the college I was going to and he got it in as a school project and did it for a third of what the dealership wanted. All they charged me for was the pump, no labor. If you or someone you know goes to college and they have a respectable mechanics shop then you might ask. If you have to do it yourself then I'd cut the access port like the other guys are saying though.
