Default 10% ethanol Gas, performance?

Where I live in virginia they are starting to sell 10% ethanol at all of our gas stations. Ive heard a lot of different things but im wonderin what this will do to the perfomance and gas milage of my car, also will it require more maintanence?

Do you think some gas stations will still sell regular gasoline?

If you look at the Chevy website and compare the E85 fuel mileage to gasoline, you'll be down about 20% with E85. Even though its a little cheaper I dont think its worth it.

all of us will be converting to this new 10% ethenol b/c MTBE pollutes the water and this changeover is part of the reason for increased gas prices on the east coast right now, particularly NJ.

He's right. If all new vehicles come designed from the factory to run on E85, manufactuers should be able to make just as much power with about the same fuel mileage as gasonline. Since Ethanol has a higher octane rating than gasoline, it allows for raised compression ratios and more advanced timing. It als allows you to run more boost in F/I applications.

Obviously E85 is going to make less power and get worse fuel economy when used in a dual-fuel vehicle, as the engine is primarily designed to run on gasoline. But in an engine designed specifically for E85, the results should be much better.

gas prices are rising steeper in the good old states! cali and new york have had 10% ethanol in the travel months for some time now. it is how ever a federal law for this year that ALL states use a 10% mix during the travel season. in the winter however in ny we switch back to good old fashion gas. the straight gas IS cheaper than the 10% ethanol crap they force on us. welcome to a good old fashion *** ******* you southerners. cali and ny have bent over long enough. pretty soon you guys you'll have a sniffer test too!!!!!!!!!! ethanol cost more to transport........ always more excuses to charge us more! its called e10=10% ethanol
e85= 85% ethanol
e95= 95% ethanol (for diesels)

If we subsidized middle easterners by billions of dollars per year, then spent an equal amount killing corn farmers, I wonder which fuel would look more attractive?

I think there is some confusion in this thread... E85 isa completly idfferent fuel than what is being described in this thread...

ALL GAS IN WYOMING IS 10% ethonal. THIS IS NOT E85...!!!! E85 is 85% Ethonal, not 10%.

You all think you have it bad eveyrwhere else... all we can get in wyoming is 91 octane with 10% ethonal..... :-/....
