One last one....saved all of these as I was considering doing it. Decided instead to take it in and drop the tank in two weeks. Too bad GM did not incorporate this feature into their fbodies......seems so logical. Hope these help.

Default trap door

Caution! I cut the trap door for my fuel pump yesterday and the measurements that I found on the web are NOT the correct measurements for my 99 Bird. the pump actually sits a lttle further back, "toward the rear of the car" and had no hard plumbed fuel lines toward the front of the car. Didn't really have to cut the sheet metal towards the front of the car nearly as much as they stated. beware.

I did mine over the weekend, used an air chisel and tin snips and it came out great. Just be careful of the wires near the back of the panel, I clipped one with the tin snips. It was a super easy fix, but just thought I would throw it out there.

There is a much higher chance of pump failure if the tank is not removed and properly cleaned. We do not recommend the trap-door method although some people have used it with mixed results.

Agreed never a good idea to hack a big hole in the floor of your car. It is not much more work to drop the tank and do it the right way.

I can drop the tank faster than you can cut the dam hole. It looks dificult, but it's a piece of cake.

Plus, you wont have to smell fuel everytime you drive the car.

If you do not have a GM factory manual which covers this procedure please e-mail support@racetronix.com. We can provide this section of the manual to Racetronix customers.
