Default Fuel rail leak HELP!!!

Started up my LS1 cut out again today in the GD Cobra kitcar. i have a leak on one of the injectors where it goes into the rail. i have taken it off, the Rubber o ring is fine but it does seem a little loose in the hole, could this be the clip?, is there a special way of installing these or has anyone else had the same problem?

Also the Bleed valve is leaking... the cap is missing but im told this dosnt matter. but if i put my finger over the end it stops... it just spits out fuel and air as if its trying to bleed its self. any ideas???

cheers

The O-ring should be compressed to tight when the
injector is pushed up in. Are you sure about the
o-ring's "pedigree" (i.e. it is an actual injector O
and not something some Ace Hdwr emergency
replacement)? An o-ring that has cracked may
look OK at rest but take it off the body and see
what can be seen, when you roll it between
finger & thumb. Ones I saw come off in a swap
were pretty much not reuse-worthy. You might
want to have the rail off and inspect the seat
hole for a ding or corrosion.

If the Schrader spits air then you have air in the
system and that's not right. Either vapor (fuel line
heating) or air (fuel pump uptake line sucking air?).

Thanks for that... when you put the injector in do you put the o ring in first? or put it on the injector then push the injector in??

re the spitting i just thought, when i started the engine i only put a gallon of fuel in... so its probaly low on fuel... so its sucking up air that way.. could this be the cause??

regards

Regardless of whether theres air in the lines or not, the schrader valve should not leak. Its the same type of valve thats in your tires. Replace the valve, they are dirt cheap. You'll need a special tool, also dirt cheap.

I'd replace the injector O-ring too, better safe than sorry.

You put the oring on the injector, then install the injector and push it all the way in tight.

Then install the clip.

Thats it!

Default The o'rings...

depending on their age, quality, will eventually fail.
I see ALOT of that when I flow test injs, that have come out of an engine.[Injs that have been out in the air, are even worse]. I have seen it happen so often, in fact, that the first thing I do is change them, prior to flow tests.
Due to poor quality, I use ONLY the black o'rings that are certified for use on the GM Multec injs... The brown rings gave me nothing but problems.

When installing them, be sure the rail bores are slick, and clean. Lube the rings with some di-electric grease.[Same stuff you use on elec connections, to prevent corrosion].

The schraeder valve is a common tire valve stem core. It can be replaced at any auto parts store, or tire store. A "special tool" I use is a valve stem cap, that has the core remover end on it. I picked up a discarded tubeless tire stem, and put a dab of Loctite on the threads. Once the cap is screwed on, you have a neat tool, for the tool box!
