Question Fuel Rail end Cap...?

Hey guys... I've got a Fuel Pressure Guage that i need to hook up... I've got the Fitting I need that screws onto the end of the fule rail (the blue part)... but is the stock black plastic endcap on the fuel rail plenty strong enough to cap off the new blue guage adapter fitting that I have?

This isn't a picture of my car... but it's the the exact same parts I have to work with... You can see the blue fitting on the fuel rail that the guage sender plugs into... The black plastic plug on the end of it is what i'm asking about...

i broke the little valve inside the fuel rail back when i had nitrous on my old motor and i went about 5 days and the cap practically exploded off the fitting... basically that little plastic plug is the only thing at that point holding that pressure back... i think jegs or summit might have a metal cap/plug that should fit the threads on that fitting...

The schrader valve is what goes there in the stock setup inside the rail there on the end. The plastic cap doesn’t hold any pressure on the stock setup, it just covers the Schrader valve. What is that blue fitting again? If it is a fuel pressure sensor it will not have an outlet. If it does, you need to put a metal plug in there or put the stock Schrader valve in it if it will fit.

Well to put the blue fitting on there you must remove the schrader valve... then screw on the blue fitting, then the guage sensor plugs into the side of the blue fitting... but on the end of the blue fitting is where the black plastic cap goes... I guess I just need to find a metal one of some sort...

AN is a type of fitting (Army-Navy)

ever see the stainless steel lines race cars have? usually with blue and red anodized ends? most of thoes are AN fittings. same with nitrous lines.

the end of your fuel rail is just like an AN fitting, with a schrader valve inside. (a schrader valve is the little valve just like whats in your tires airfill nipple)

with the valve removed, your standard AN adapter screwed on....

a regular AN cap will cover and seal the end of your adapter. i dont remember if the rail is -3AN or -4AN.. but its one of the two.

Why not just get a fitting that adapts straight from the end of the fuel rail to the sending unit?

Here... this should help... this is the exact part that I have...

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...=KeywordSearch

The hole in the side of it is where the sending unit goes... the nut on the end screws onto the end of the fuel rail... The stock plastic cap screws on the beveled nipple side... The stock plastic cap fits fine... i'm just worried because it's plastic...

You are worried for good reason. That plastic cap will certainly not hold 60psi of pressure! Get a -4AN plug for the end of it if you insist on using that particular fitting. I don't think they make a plug with an internal thread tho so you will need to get a coupler and then a plug to go into the end of that.

...Or you could just get one -4 to 1/8 NPT coupler fitting and replace the whole mess...

DONT run just that cap.

that cap is NOT ment to seal the line!!

there is a small valve in the end of the stock fuel rail.. that valve seals the end.

the only function of the cap, is to prevent dirt from getting in that hole/valve.

when you put that fitting on, you remove this valve first.. making it wide open. then screw the fitting on.
you need an AN cap, or a diffrent fitting. while that plastic cap will screw on, it will NOT seal.
it will eventually blow off, spray fuel everywhere, and most likely burn your car to the ground.

do not NOT NOT NOT run just that cap. please.

(i thought that was clear enough before, but i suppose not...)
