Default Opinions on rear end decision

Ok I bought the car over three weeks ago now with 50k miles on it engine is great tranny is great, I never checked the rear end which had some issues then I took it to my local raceway got some mad wheel hop out of the burnout box. launched from a dead start. Well the past couple weeks it has been feeling liek the rear end is breaking loose from the car, when I read about what the torsen rear does when it is on its way out is ratchet and bang around turns at low speeds. BINGO my problem already my rear is toast.

Sorry this is a long post.

Ok I bought this car with the intention of buying a 74-75 camaro and building a 383 stroker for it and making that my fun car. This one I just want to do Headers, ORY, cb, lid, LS6 intake and tune. If I bought a better differential moser axles, and m 3:42 gears, would this hold up to maybe once a month a track run of maybe 3 runs or so and normal street driving. Since I got this car I actually go the speed limit too.

Please let me know if it would hold up and be sufficient for me not going all out with this car. Thanks

bottom line is, you can beef up a 10 bolt till its nothing but beef, but its still a ten bolt. mine broke after i installed headers, and launched it at 2000 rpms.....thats not a lot, so it broke fairly easy. i would start saving, and start shopping for a 12 bolt at least. I was lucky enough to find a used Moser 12 from a sponser on here for roughly 1600.00 bux,,, vs a new one for 2500.00

Yeah see I don't plan on doing a lot to the car and the 12 bolt is way too much money for a DD that is not a race car, just fun.

Then you gotta ask yourself, how many times are you gonna pay to have a 10 bolt repaired or replaced.

They just dont handle abuse.

There is a reason why you see threads in the rear end section from vendors about their sales on certain aftermarket rears, and theyre up in the thousands of posts/views.

Cause it is just a common problem, and eventually damn near anyone who mod's their vehicle or not that likes to find traction at some point in time, will experience.

Sorry to hear yours let go, if youre still dead stuck on staying with the 10bolt, I would say spend whatever it is youre comfortable spending on it to try and get it back up to par or 'beefier' and see how that goes.

Then if it happens again, you should highly consider replacing it while youre atleast not too deep into the 10bolt where you wont wanna give up on it.

Ok yeah cause like I said I don't really race the car, it is not my intent on this one being a "race car" the second gen will fill that spot.

Thanks for the opinions. Also if I am buying a used rear end from someone what should I look for to make sure it won't go out on me as soon as it goes in?

I have raced my 10 bolt 3-4 times per month for the past 8 years and broke 1 posi unit. This is with low 1.60s to high 1.50s 60'. Each one is different.

Yeah for now I am buying a rear end off a local guy, then about 2 years or so I will buy a 12 bolt. Would go 9 in but I am not a fan of puting ford parts on my GM.

+1 Start putting cash aside. No point dumping money into a 10 bolt that's more then likely going to break adv.
