diff between 98 rear and 00 rear?

Default diff between 98 rear and 00 rear?

what are the major differences between a 98 rear and a 00 rear if any? im tryin to trade a 98 rear with 3.73 for a 00 with 3.23, might not get it but just curious?

nothing different than the gear sizes you mentioned., just be sure that both cars have the right axles.... meaning make sure that both cars either have traction control or both cars dont.

basically the difference is this. if you have tcs that means you have a 4 channel abs system, which means you have sensors on both rear axles,

if you dont have tcs then the sensor is in the top center of the rear end.

ya i knew the 3 and 4 channel difference, i have a 4 channel and i asked what he had we will soon find out...

his is an m6 so it would of had 342 so thats a 3 carreir right?

what was with the auburn and somthing, i thought some years had a different center section?

sorry for the questions i just like to be informed before i pull the trigger on things like this and this is the first time ive been to this section of the board lol

if his is a 6 speed, then he has 3.42's assuming they are factory gears. there was an auburn rear ans a zexel torsen, if im not mistaken the zexel's came with SS and firehawks.... i could be wrong but to my knowledge neither is better than the other.... (having broken one just as easy as the other several times)

alright thanks for the help sounds like i just gotta make sure its a 4 channel and we are in business, i dont see that being a fun swap though...

if you are swapping the entire rear its no problem, but the internals are a PITA since you would have to set it up properly.

The '98 has an Auburn differential. Not sure when they switched to Torsen diff's, I think 2000.
It doesn't matter if it's an SS or Z28 The Auburn was standard in the earlier years, and optional in the SS cars later years.

well his car doenst have traction control so 3 channel i would have to convert it to a 4 channel and i dont think i want to mess with that

You just need axles and backing plates from a donor rear (maybe your old one if you have an old one)
Plus the reluctor wheels and sensors which are usually on the donor parts. Real easy swap.

i dont have a donor, because he is looking for a straight swap. he wants stock gears. he just wants somebody close to drive to his house swap rears and done. instant upgrade to 3.73 for someone and he gets stock gears like he wants.
