the rear ends from 99-04 'stang's are not ideal, as they have IRS, and the carriers can't/don't interchangeable with their live axle counterparts.
newer crown victoria's would be pretty good candidates for building IMO, after '02 i believe they have 31 spline axles and some police models have posi, plus they're plentiful, and there's no UCA mounts to grind off the housing.....

What he said!!!!!! I can handle finding a 28 spline posi 8.8 rear and using my tubes with brackets pressed in and my Moser 10 bolt 28 spline axles along with all my brakes.....I just don't know how to connect the tq arm to the thing. I like the idea of a bolt on mount best. Anyone at least have some pictures of a bolt-on mount???

I've seen it for sale somewhere. I'll see if I can hunt it down and link it here.

This may be it. It, of course, is advertised as a ford 8.8 product but that just means it will fit the 8.8. Some fab for the front point backet may be necessary.

How come no one is talking about the mini four link set up? Talking to others sounds like the set up works very well. Some members have time slips to back it up also. Im in the process of a 8.8 build from and exploder. cutting the tubes and using my 4 channel abs set up. Ill have pics up soon!

So if you're not making crazy power, would an 8.8 be better than a 9 in terms of weight and parasitic loss? How bout 8.8 vs 12 bolt for weight and parasitic loss? I figure if you're under 500hp than the extra weight and parasitic loss of the 9" might not be worth it.

That was my understanding. The 8.8 is just under the 9 in size so quite strong, but is lighter and has less parasitic loss as you said. Plus, at the time I bought mine, it was less expensive. I've been racing mine since 2003 with all kinds of motors, power adders and transmissions/gear ratios. I haven't had any issues with the Torque Arm mount. I hear I'm one of the lucky ones though.

Do any companies sell 8.8s pre-fabbed for Camaros so you can just install them? Because that is definitely what I would need. Sites like Texas Speed, Tick performance, and byunspeed don't have 8.8" rear ends.
Also, can you give me more info on the torque arm issue? What exactly are you talking about? I was planning on buying a UMI torque arm relocation kit and transmission mounted torque arm to make more room for a dual exhaust setup. Will this cause any problems down the road when it comes time to replace my 10 bolt? I know it's going to be either a 9" or 8.8".

In my case, there hasn't been any torque arm mount issues but from what I'd read, other guys that bought the same setup as mine (mild steel welded to the cast iron 8.8 center section) had the welds crack. From what I've read, this is a tricky welding process because of the methodology invovled. The person welding the materials has to get the cast iron up to a certain (high) temperature before the weld with the different metal (the mild steel components) will 'stick'. That's the laymans explanation.
I really like my 8.8. Properly setup, it's a great differential.
