Default What's the general limit on an LS1 Driveshaft?

I have always heard they aren't the strongest out there so trying to see if I would be better off swapping back to my stock steel driveshaft or not. The car will be running mid 11's with late 1.5x to early 1.6x 60's. Please share your experiences or what you may have heard...thanks

automatics come with steel driveshafts, while manual cars come with aluminum.

Stock aluminum here....1.57's and 11.62's and no problems yet. Every time I race though, it feels like it's taking such a beating....saving for a 9".

Good to know since I should be exactly where you are ET wise and close 60' foot wise. I'm even scared to take it to the track for the first time with the 10 bolt. Im about to start saving for a 9" too, cant wait to get MidWest 9" and forget about it.

ive cut 1.69s on slicks, a couple of 5800rpm clutch dumps, catching a lil air under the driverside wheel. ive also sprayed a 100shot to it from 2nd gear on. ive seen people break em with less power, and seen em last in 11sec cars. i also heard the stock alum ds is stronger than the stock steel ds

I snapped an aluminum with only bolt ons and goodyear gs-d3 tires. I was not cutting anything less than a 2.0 60' either. You might be ok since you have an auto but I would recommend an upgraded DS just from my past experience.

@1.64 60 ft
lost 4L60E twice, still on the 10 bolt with a lot of rear upgrade, but do have a 9 " waiting on the side

you will be fine, it might end up breaking a u-joint. then i would just get one made with solid joints in the front and back.

It's not A4 vs M6, it's 2.73 rears (A4 only) that got
the steelie. My 3.23 car came aluminum. The thing
that's a problem is, the steel wasn't meant to be
spun real high and stock steel driveshafts break
tailhousings on the dyno, especially if somebody's
gone up in gear ratio and it starts to whip like an
egg beater from being overspun.
