Default 10 bolt Gear oil True/False whats best and why? Torsion and Auburn

Time to build The 10 bolt. Goin to be a daily driver with less than 450 Hp and not going much higher. Might get down on it every once in a while but not gonna be abbused.

I would like to know good and bad facts, whats best and worse.

I have an Aubun posi unit. Need additive, What kind? What kind of fliud? Name brand and Viscosity please

Also got a good deal on a Torsion. No additive but I have heard ppl using it anyway. I have no idea why but maybe someone could give a good reason.

This is goin in a DD car that is hardy ever beatin and less than 450 HP and will never see the track. So before you cry bitch and complain about the 10 bolt, HOLD YOUR BREATH or typing fingers. I have a 9", and an 8.8. Dont need it in this car. Search sucks, please go away if you are gonna complain aout this thread or what is goin to be built.

If you have any good info on the gear oil please help. Also looking for a TA or similar cover or girdle.

Thanks for looking and help, Roy

~*Updates*~

I will try to keep this up to date, So far;

Recommended Gear Oil:
1x Dino 75-90
1x Lucas 85-140
1x Lucas 75-90
1x "regular" 80-90
1x "regular" 75-90

Lucas is in the lead
More popular weight is 75-90

Not Recommended:
Royal purple with an auburn;
Bad for brass parts inside the unit

Here's my experience - I'm about 425 HP at the wheels. Had an Auburn carrier and I split it in half on a launch. Bought a take out Torsen and used that for about 2 years with no issues. Broke a few sets of gears though. With street use, I'd really say it's a toss up. Just know that with a Torsen, if you ever do a one wheel peel, it will KILL it in seconds. An Auburn can handle more abuse than that.

You have a 6 speed? What kind or gear oil are you using? You still running with the 10 bolt?

AS far as I know a 10 bolt is only wise if you have an auto and less than 450 hp or a 5/6 speed with 350 or less HP. Any thing higher I would recommend another set up.

Yeah, my M6 was a rearend killer. I used 85/140 Lucas in mine, figured the extra viscosity might cushion parts. No longer running the 10 bolt, just had an S60 installed a couple days ago.

the best limited slip additive is the **** ford sells. just use regular 80-90 gear oil and you will be fine, i use castrol. for stock components the auburn is better. i just picked up an brand new eaton for $400 and im sticking in some aam gears.

royal purple is bad for the brass components in the auburn ive read, i use 75/90 synthetic plus 5 ounces of gm additive, thats also what it says in the owners manual, just changed it the second time since ive had the car and the internals were in very good shape, about 1 & 3/4 of oil, just a tad less

Awesome, Royal purple with auburn=no bueno

Do you have stock rear with torsion and still use the additive and what brand oil you use?

So Lucus 75-90 and 1 & 3/4 quarts of oil with no gm additive for a torsion, is that about right. Also, how does the break in period work?

check out drivetrain.com. If you cant find it call em.

Ive heard lots off different things, such as a heat cycle. Run the car (30 minutes), let it cool, run the car, let it cool, run the car, let it cool.
