Default Detroit Locker?

I've been pretty big into offroading for a few years, rather new to dragracing. But am building up a nice 525hp/500lb-ft or so Z28...hoping for low 11's. The detroit locker was great for the Jeep.

Was wondering how the Detroit Locker is on the street in a f-body. Jeeps ride so badly it doesnt matter- but I'm guessing you can REALLY feel it pop in an f-body. Also, how is durability on the street- or is just the popping an issue? I'm between a trac-lok & the detroit. Car will be used pretty hard for drag racing, but I still need to be able to drive it on the street every so often- and sometimes for long trips.

I drive about 10k a year street and 300 1/4 mile passes a year, the only bother[pretty big one] is the clunking in tight turns off the power or brakes.
It is a pain and is making me consider a spool[which isn't the best for heavy street use] !!!

Haha, thanks. But it locks up very well @ the track? (moreso than say a trac-lok)

I have a locker in mine and it really doesn't bother me much at all. A bit of clicking here and there and grip/slide feeling on turns.

I have the 31 spline Tractech soft locker, and when it locks up the car can pop is that what you mean?

At the track it works great.

I had a Auburn posi and it did not last a full season but it had been rebuilt.

I'll probably choose to run one if I ever replace the stock axle in my car. The noise wouldn't bother me any.

BTW, anyone use a detroit locker on a 12 bolt? Always seems like the ford 9 guys are the ones that have them.

I second that.... I've never seen a locker available for a 12 bolt, only Posi's and spools. I would have gotten a locker for my 12 bolt if it had been available.

According to DTS catalog I have here, the Detroit Locker is listed for the 12 bolt, part #813A013. Actually that one is listed as a Detroit E-Z Locker.

I wonder how an Air Locker would work in an F-body? Locks up by air, with a push of the button.

http://www.tractech.com/Products.htm Here's the company website.
I think the E-Z locker might be different than the detroit locker that guys on here have in thier 9 in fords.

Check this link out though. This website acutally sells detroit lockers for the stock 10 bolt! wth?

Exactly what i am using, the 3.70 gear, Carrier and Detroit locker are all nascar test parts and all work flawlessly. The gear teeth where hand polished and the detroilt locker is from Dale Jarrets car incase any nascar fans are interested.

I went "muddin" with 'em & the air lockers are great.

Well, I talked to strange and moser and they both told me no detroit locker for the 12 bolt. I wonder why those websites have them listed as available for 12 bolt.

OK, I talked to tractech, the manufactuer of the detroit locker. He said they offer absolutely no product for the 12 bolt car axle. Anything on the site listed is for 12 bolt truck only.
