How can i tell if its a ford 9inch??

Default How can i tell if its a ford 9inch??

my grandpa has a 1976 f100 with a 390 in it and he passed away many years ago and now my grandma wants to get rid of the truck so i was going to part it out. i know the motor is a 390 but how can i tell if its a ford 9inch??? i looked online and some sources say it is. but is there a sure way of knowing?

take a few shots and post up here. OPINION>>> If it's got a 390, then its probably got a 9"

if it doesnt have bolts in the back like a traditional rear end, than it is a 9". Correct me if im wrong?

Doesn't the 8.8" have bolt alignment similar to the 9"?

Not true a ford 8" looks like a 9" but smaller

8.8 cover bolts are on the back like a 10 bolt

Yes you can but it will need new bearing ends a torque arm mount f-body brackets welded on,and it will need to be narrowed since it coming out of a ford truck. I think the ford truck rears were about 2" wider then a f-body. The only way for me to know fr sure if it's a 9" is there will be no dimpels in the rear where the ring gear sticks out and the two lower 3rd member bolts right below the pinion you can't remove with a socket only a wrench

Its a 9" I have a 1974 Ford f100 with a 360/4 speed.

If you have an f250/350 then it got a Dana 60

i would like to but i think i am going to sell it and help out my grandma get some money out of it.
