the 12 bolt housing still flexes and causes problems. i suppose if you got the brace kit for it, that might prolong any breakage for a while. personally, i would stay away from it all together.

i wanna see someone throw 600 ft/lbs of tq at one and see if they stay quiet. if so, then they are probably gonna be around a while

I've seen a few 5.0 stangs run 600wft/lbs (or more) on 8.8's maybe they have magic pumpkin fillings.
Might go over to the (GasP) stangnet or corral and ask them what they think about the 8.8

They have detroit locker listed for 12P which I assume is a passenger 12 bolt

-I like this one-
sooo....no one has broken a 8.8 hybrid rear, not even gear whine?
with all the shattered 12 bolts, that seems pretty amazing that they're holding up! Maybe I'm just behind on my 8.8 info.

There are very few hybird 8.8 rears in service compared to 12 bolts and 9" and the length of service that the 8.8" is a short period compared to the years of use for 12 bolts and 9". The hybird 8.8 may prove to be a good option but I don't think it has a long enough track record ( at least with members of this board) to be a slam dunk choice.

The 8.8 rear end has been around for years. I do not understand why everyone thinks this 8.8 hybrid is something "new". It is not. It is an 8.8 housing & chunk, with 10 bolt axle tubes welded onto it so that'll fit an F-body. There is nothing new about it. Just ask the 7-9 Second Mustang guys running 8.8's how strong they are, and there is your answer. These are no different, other than the gut options you can order.

ur right rag top, it's new to the f-body owners. I have yet to hear a 8.8 being broken but I know it can happen...u can break any rear. I know of a guy that has a 91 LX, built 306, cam, headers, T-5, 150 shot, 28" slicks, full cage, full race suspension...he broke his 8.8 this last weekend. to repeat myself for Damian, ur right, 8.8's have been around for a long time but it's new for us.

All I want is something that will be relatively strong (I don't have an 1100hp beast) ... accept a dozen or so passes at the track yearly ... and not be an annoyance during daily driving (whining, clunking, leaking, etc).
Sounds like the 8.8 is the way to go, for me at least.

just remember the posi is weak stock. eaton makes a posi with a 1yr unconditional warranty, my bro had to buy one. Probably had to do with his 5500rpm launches on ET's.
just repeating what he has told me (two dead stock 8.8 lsd ) on much less than 500whp ws6.
you can bug him yourself his nick is mikeyws6 or something like that if you have questions.

Maybe the guy I talked to was just a moron and they really to make a locker for the 12 bolt passenger. I really don't understand why all these websites have them listed as available. Someone on here suggested that there was a way to get the locker from the truck to work on the passenger axle, but I have no idea what you would have to do to get them to work or if it is even possible.
