I've been soaking up information like a parched sponge. I've decided to go with a Strange 12 bolt. Good reputation, easy to bolt up, and a remedy for the brake backing plate issue--->TByrne has a great idea. Kind of like a swap/core charge that's refundable.
In fact, he just started a GP on Strange Rears, and the price is right.

I did not read this entire thread so sorry if this is a repost.

I say nine inch. Too many on here have had problems with the 12 bolts. Especially in M6 cars. Then again if you have 3 channel ABS and want to keep it you can only do that with the 12bolt.

I will say you should be okay as long as you stay away from the hard launches. Most of the problems (that I have seen on here) have been from guys breaking the posi. Most went with a spool afterwards. The nine inch is much stronger but eats about 2 to 3 % more power than the 12bolt. If you go with a posi in the nine inch it is prone to breakage as well. I went with a locker in my nineinch. It makes alot of noise but that is no problem for me.
You say only DRs and no 5-6k clutch dumps now. I will bet that you may be singing a different tune down the road though. Why not go with the stronger of the two to begin with. You could build a posi 3rd member for the street and a spool for the track. Or just run a locker and put up with the bangin an poppin when you turn.
All in all it depends on what you want to do with your car. I like to plan ahead. My rearend is definately overkill for now but in a year the car will be makin the power to warrant it.
Just my .02,
Brad

Just when I made up my mind, I lost it again! The 8.8 Rear vendor offered me a decked out rear with ABS for $2100.00 shipped. I was previously going with a Strange 12 Bolt with TByrne for $2300.00 + shipping (with super-posi.)
Dayem, what to do??!!

It's 3 channel.
Hmmmm, you'd take the 8.8". My hesitation is that it is a "small time" guy, so I don't know what kind of follow up/customer service will occur if I have issues. Also, I'm not too keen on PayPal, which is my only choice for the 8.8". May be I just don't know enough about PayPal.
TByrne has been doing this forever, and it appears that Strange has got a good rep. Shoot, I won't mind saving a few hundred dollars with the 8.8 either, that way I can buy DR's or a stronger clutch.
Still sitting on the fence..

I'm making my own 8.8 hybrid. Last night I cut the legs off the 10 bolt (tossed the center section) and the 8.8. I left 5" on either side of the 8.8's center section to slide, I presumed, the 10 bolts legs into these 5" stubs. I presumed that the smaller diameter 10 bolt legs would fit. Wrong The outter diameter of the 10 bolt legs are *just barely* too large for the inner diameter of the 8.8. Recovery looks to be to apply a reducer and TIG weld them together. I have the 8.8 carrier. I have the gears (4.10's) on order.
Taking the 8.8 center section and the legs to the welder on Friday.
