My sleeves were machined by a local machine shop. They charged me 80.00 for the machine work and they work great!
your using the 10 bolt axels, just make them the correct length to accommodate that distance and there you go.

Have you done this 8.8 conversion? You can put the tubes where ever you want in the ford housing. This location has nothing to do with where the actual 28 spline axle will ride inside the ford 8.8 carrier.

I'm doing the conversion currently, but I guess I misunderstood your previous post. There is nothing you can do about the axel being shorter past the c-clip but I would trust someone who has run this setup before and not had an issue with it.

Yes that is correct, the measurement past the c-clip is shorter. If some one else ran this set up and broke an axle in a 10.xx sec car and needed to replace the axles. Why not get new axles up front and get that piece of mind they fit properly and the bigger spline count as a bonus? Good luck with your build!!

I agree which is why I went 31 spline, but if your looking to do it dirt cheap you can cut an easy $340 off the price by using your stockers thats all. That was my original intentions, I don't mean to argue with you or anything just giving information that has been given to me on this same subject.

With your setup are you going to use the mini ladder bar setup or are you going to try and fab up a torque arm mount?

I ended up going with the mini ladder bar setup. So far it has been a good project.

Very good info in here. Time to call dad and see if his JY has any 8.8's I can snag. My trans is coming out for a rebuild. Might as well upgrade the rearend while I am at it if I can swing it.

Not everyone is willing to accept that their time is equal to zero. That is a fundamental flaw in your reasoning, but one folks around here seem to make a lot.

That being said, this is a nice solution for someone with the time and tools to fab their own deal. Nice work.

Adding a little more info if anyone is interested....

I plan on using mustang brakes and the mustang bolt pattern (5x4.5) my reasoning is that I'm getting different wheels and am getting wider ones for the rear so they will never be rotated and getting new rotors is no big deal, that way you don't have to get the mustang rotors redrilled for the chevy pattern everytime they get replaced.

I was doing some looking and you can get cobra rear rotors and they are vented rather than solid like the v6/GT rear rotors. The calipers are the same, but the rotors are 1.5" bigger in diameter.

I'm also keeping the 8.8 the way it comes from the mustangs and running a deeper dish wheel since it will be 4" narrower overall. And I'll be doing the mini ladder bars and getting rid of my TA. Hopefully someday I'll have some money to get everything done LOL

ok I've run into a problem, I have to find the flange that goes onto the pinion gear and connects to the driveshaft. I have one from a 7.5 mustang rear that I was told will work but my pinion spline is bigger, which piece am I looking for? I was told the 8.8 and 7.5 flanges are the same but the truck /explorer ones may be different is this true?

How strong are these?
M6 car 6k dumps, 347 with 200-300 shot of spray? Is this going to blow up? Could I do the same thing with a junk 9 and convert it? I can build a new 9 for a little under 2k, so this would save a over 1k if I built this instead.

How about the ladder bar set up whats the limit on that?
Thanks
Jay

I'm curious about the 9" too. I've got access to a few nodular iron 9's.

DETROITMUSCLE: You need the companion flange adapter. You can buy them at Currie Enterprises for about $35.00.

You can do it with a 9" too no problem. 8.8s are a bit cheaper to build and almost as strong as a 12 bolt, but don't rob as much power. Plus brakes are way easier to put together for a good price on the 8.8

You get your problem figured out? I am interested to see you finish your build. Found a cheap 8.8 housing but don't want to start yet with all the other projects ongoing on the car at the moment. Money is tied up elsewhere. There is never enough.

yeah just need the bigger flange, no problem just trying to find one for cheaper than brand new. Once the sleeves are done it'll be moving a lot faster but pulling favors from people is never a fast process.

I finally located a housing and a 31 spline true trak for $150. Then me and my buddy were wondering around the junk yard looking for V8 explorer parts for his Ranger V8 project and I found 3 explorers that have rear disc. I have a load of junk that I'm going to take and try to barter with and get the calipers, brake hoses, caliper brackets, rotors, and 2 drivers side axles. Maybe the gears too if they are 4.10s. Then I'll be able to start my rear end swap with a mini ladder setup.

I'll get some pics up when the guy pulls the rear axle for me, should be next week at the latest and maybe next week I'll get the rear brakes and axles too.

So, With an 8.8 housing, cut off 10 bolt axle tubes, I would just need the moser axles for a ford center section and fbody bolt pattern in addition to the carrier/dif etc.. Also, since the axle tubes are out of the 10 bolt, I'd be able to use LS1 brakes? Or is my reasoning wrong and i'm missing something?
