The 10-bolt will hold for sure. I'll even make you a deal, I'll trade you my 10-bolt for you 12-bolt free of charge.

ill add my .02 cents. theres a friend of mine that has an iroc-z, he's got a 10bolt and as yall may or should know it the same weak 10bolt thats in the 4th gens. his old set up was a 383 w/ a 300 pill. stock 10 bolt with 2.73s stock 16's with mt drag radials and a th350 with a 4000stall. ran 9.9's all day long and has not broken anything in the rear end. so to all the non believers it can be done.

hd alloy axles
ta cover
better gears
back cut the gears
new posi
check the axles for straightness
weld the axle tubes

can be done but will cost you some money.
the + side is the 10 bolt will eat less hp.

as long as you don't go wheel hopping the the thing you will
be ok

I think this has bad written all over it Trust. I destroyed my 10 bolt with bolt ons... I dunno about you, but I think a little noise is a fair tradeoff for peace of mind...

I say no. I just popped my DTE stg III last night at the track. Modest launch, nothing major, and a clean 1-2 shift. Went for 3rd and she was done. Pulled over to watch everything draining out. Can't wait to see the diff out of the car. Good luck.

that sounds more expensive than replacing a 10 bolt or buying a nine inch.

What do you guys think?
Talk about "drawing a flaming"...hahaha. You know better than that, Trust. Pull all the interior insulation and run some quality soundproofing. Mosers are notoriously noisey bastards, but better that than even the possibility of a grenading 10 bolt. I have to agree with IWGF. Properly insulated, the car will be all good on the interior.

there is nothing wrong about the moser rearends, as long as you dont launch them at 6,000 rpms, they will last forever, my neighbors 3.73, 33 spline posi 12 bolt is silent as the grave and hes puttin down 740 to the wheels. but he doesnt launch it at 5500, 6000 rpms.

honestly, I'm on my 3rd rear end(and its gonna blow soon, I can tell) and its annoying to always destroy this rear end. And I dont like the idea of spending 4K on parts and not getting one pony more at the wheels. It will be the very last mod I'll do.
Thats also why I'm holding out on a moser rear, $3300 and not only are you gaining zero horse but you're losing some , it's loud as hell straight from moser, it weighs 50-60 pounds more and again it's $3300. Anyways I believe with either 2.73s or 3.23s the rear will hold 400-425rwhp through an auto for a real long time before breaking.

To OP, just route oil lines straight through the rear wheel wells so when you stomp on it, oil shoots all over your tires. That should keep the rear in one piece. Might hit a tree but the 10 bolt will be ok.

I asume your wanting to switch out. So you can make the car a lil lighter. For some roll racing

yes, its called an auto, and luck, lots of it.

Ive broken 3 12 bolts so, seriously I would never dream of going to a 10 bolt. I love my 9" though, could not be happier silent as hell

My '98 snapped a 12-bolt with just a tad over 900 wheel horsepower. Couldn't imagine a 10-bolt back there. What a joke. lol

800 Horse through a 10 bolt. . . . Wow, just wow!

If I had that setup, I would just let her rip one day. . . . Gears and teeth everywhere. . . LOL

hahah funny thread.

really, i don't think 10 bolts are as bad as they're made out to be. especially in an automatic. at that power level though, i don't think it would last very long. a friend of mine had his commit suicide just cruising on the highway, not even on the gas. 311rwhp and automatic.

Jesus.. lighten up guys, it's a serious question.

I'm sure it could be done, but it'll need a lot of work. You sure your gears in the 12 bolt just aren't noisy? I'd try to fix the noise in the 12 bolt before I would build up a 10 bolt.
