I dont know what it is about me and the damn pinions but this is the 4th one i've been throught..... mods are bmr tq arm bmr cross member solid mounts poly trans mount shift kit and tuner. WTF! So I'm sitting my car in the back of walmart waiting for the towtruck because I dont wanna drive it. I drove it from my house to t/k and they said it was the rear end just like before and they said not to drive it so i'm not.

Maybe the 10 bolt housing is tweaked a little. Sonds like its a good time to stop throwing good money on bad money and scrap the 10 bolt.

stop fixing that 10 bolt... you should just upgrade your rear

Im going through the same problem. Mechanic told me something seems to be twisted or bent since my pinion keeps breaking. I'm saving up for a 12 bolt also. The 10 bolt rear is no doubt the weakest link!!!! They're way to easy to break.

Quit wheel hopping it and debur the gears before you assemble it.

This really doesn't sound normal. You have a stock converter and the stock gear ratio? Breaking the rear on the dragstrip with a stall, steeper gears, and sticky tires is expected, but this sounds different. My 10 bolt with the stock 2.73 gears has lasted 181k miles with a lot of 1/4 mile passes, some of those with a stall.

It could be because you're running those solid motor mounts. All the shock that would normally be absorbed by those engine mounts is now going directly through your crank/trans/driveshaft/pinion = pop

Default angle

What is your pinion angle? Do you have the torque arm adjusted properly?

I dont know what my pinion angle is I know that this time around richie had the car for a week because he couldnt get a good pattern on the gears he must have had that rear out 50 times, And it turns out they are a richmond gear not a motive gear he thought they where motive which is a good thing at least they might last this time LMAO. And I'm trying to break them in right I didnt launch her hard at all last night. I believe the tq arm is adjusted properly I dont see how the pinion angle and change thought....or can it? The last time we checked it it was-3 degrees in the air and on the ground if i'm not mistaken is was 0, It's not like these gears break over night thought either it takes alot of thrashing from me LOL. I was also on drag radials for about 5000 miles with lots of launches and if the gears where already effed up then I guess the radials where the end of them. Anyways I have the car back got some whine but from what I gather from all the posts that's normal for a taller gear, With every set I have had I always had whine::shrugs::it's not bad it's just at cruise.
