What broke?

Friday night the air was good so I went to a local test-n-tune. The first time I couldn't get my dang traction control turned off, 1.59 60' (took out the SLP delete box) and went again. This time I did a good burnout but the guy ahead of me broke his axle and I had to wait. Cranked it back up and backed into the water (I thought) and pulled forward to heat them up again and it hopped and popped! After thinking about it for a couple of seconds I did a dry hop and everything seemed fine, pulled up staged and POW! It was a LOUD pop!
I limped down the track pulled off and looked at it. There's nothing visably wrong with anything on outside. Drove it home. I makes no strange noises or anything. I checked everything underneath and all seems well. I know that it's broken but what exactly is it?
It's a 10 bolt with a Auburn differential and auburn 3:73 gears.
I'm going to upgrade but the economy needs to improve first. Sorry for the novel and thanks for your help.

Listen for noises when you go around corners. Bet you broke a spyder gear.

when i broke my spider gears it would make the loud popping noise when i put the car under a load. like going up a hill and lugging it. i would bet its your spider gears.

You might want to pull on the axles/ tires. Dont want it to have been an axle and have it come out on you.

Yeah I don't want that! But I drove it about 30 miles home and to be sure that would have done it. You know I'd about swear that it's quieter than it use to be. Maybe if I broke it some more it would be quieter still!
It'll probably be awhile before I get an M9 or something else for economic reasons so eventually I'll have to fix this one. This carrier and ring and pinion has about 1500 miles on it so it should be salvegable.
