Default 12 bolt gear noise

i am debating whether or not to get a 12 bolt or 9 inch. i would go with a 12 bolt if the price is right tho. but my main concern is gear noise. i remeber reading somewhere that i think something with the torque arm that it stresses the 12 bolt and picks up gear noise? is this correct. how many 12 bolt owners picked this up.

From what I heve heard, I believe the S60 and 9" are the quietest. I dont know form personal experiance, just from what I have read. I know of 2 people with mosers that make noise.

So if I buy a new 12 bolt would I pick up gear whine? I don't want to spend 2500 on a rear and pick it up. Is there anything to do to prevent it. I think the torque arm causes the gear whine so would a aftermarkety torque arm reduce it?

Ya I think its on epp website where the torque arm stresses the housing I believe and that what causes it. My 10 bolt whines and its so loud when just cruising in 5th and 6th that's what I really want to avoid. I guess I'll just spend the extra hundred or 2 and get a 9 inch

Yes it will get noisy. I had a 12 bolt in my 01 Z/28 and hated it. Changed gears 3 times, set up by someone that knows what they are doing. A dozen or so 5-6000 rpm dumps with QT Pros and the rear howled like a banshee. Bought Moser 9" with 4.57's, 35 spline axles and a locker. Stayed quiet after many passes at the track. I would never buy a 12 bolt for a M6 car. I won't buy one for the A4 car I have now. I'm going to look at a S60 when I upgrade the rear on this car.

the 12 bolt will get loud after a few launches with a 6 speed. it will eventually break teeth.
i have broken mine a few times. dead quiet until the first pass. then loud.
i have crushed the sleave, broke a pinion bearing, broke a carrier spiders gears and ring gear . then i went to a spool with a chromoly solid spacer(damaged the ratech one) and then broke the ring gear again.
i will be using a 9 inch next year i hope

I have a Strange 12 bolt and it's also noisy. I don't know if it's the gears or the TruTrac. It's nothing too unbearable, you get used to it after a week or so.

**** doesnt bother me, but having true duals dumped under the car drowns the noise out anyway.
