Default Changing gears in a 9"

I want to change from my 3.70 gears to 3.00 gears in my 9".....

I was curious if anyone has done it????? I have never changed gears and wanted to get some opinions of how hard it will be...

What do i need? new crush sleeve/shims, bearings???? Im not even sure about what i need to do a gear swap in a 9"....

I didn't see a writeup, so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

I have though about selling my center and getting a new one with 3.00 gears already installed lol... but i can get just the gears for $60..

I would like to do it myself, just for the experience and im a do-it-yourself kind of guy....

but this seems like it just might be easier/cheaper to have it done at a shop.... by the time i buy the tools and stuff i could have it done at a shop probably...

Got some gears for $60... how much would a shop charge me to install the gears????

The Dial Indicator you can get from Harbor Freight for like $25. If you have the tools to remove the Chunk you have the tools needed to swap gears.

I'm going to change mine out this summer..going from 3.50's to 3.90's..

just curious where your getting gears so cheap. if they are used, make sure the seller gives you backlash and a picture of the pattern before he took it apart, or the gears are pretty much worthless. they will make noise and wear really quick.
