Do I really need a 9 inch??? Or is the 12 bolt enough.. M6

Default Do I really need a 9 inch??? Or is the 12 bolt enough.. M6

I realize that I'm going to have to upgrade my rear end in the near future.

I made 403rwhp (T 56 trans) on the 10 bolt, and I know it's going to grenade eventually.

My question is: I only drive on the street, I never drag race, and it's very rare that I launch the car. It is pretty much just a normal street car, I like to get on it every now and again, but that is usually from a roll.

I was debating between a strange 12 bolt or some other 9 inch.

9in is a must for a m6... and don't lie, you know you will end up launching it lol! If you kept it street tires only, then a 12bolt be fine... but why spend that kind of money to have those limitations? Not to mention a 9" will sell alot easier than a 12bolt if you ever demodded...jmo

Those are some pretty valid points. And you're right I'd probably alot more prone to nail it with a 9" lol.

dont even think about a 9" if thats how you will be using the car a 12 bolt for the street and ocasional abuse is perfect

Can you explain why to "not even think about a 9inch " ?

And yes, I will only be occasionally abusing it, which is why I question the 9".

I'll probably top out at 450rwhp with this engine eventually as well, and it will only ever see street tires or street radials 315-sized.

because a 12 bolt will be more then enough to handle that power on the street with drag radials and a some track passes a 9" in my opinion will be over kill it will cost more eat up more horsepower and i believe am not sure but i think is a little more weight

If your not looking to do alot of hard launches from a dig or looking to put a tire on the car that is going to hook then I dont see the point in a 9". Would it be a good investment yes, My car puts down 600 to the wheels and it has held fine on the stock 10-bolt for almost a year now. I do not rip on it from a dig or power shift in the hopes of prolonging the life of it until I can afford a 9". I would say for your power level and the way you use the car you would be plenty happy with a 12-bolt.

Why is it even a debate between the 2 of them? Unless you can pick up a 12 bolt for cheap, it shouldn't even be an option. Don't worry about "power loss" when I went from my 10 bolt to a 9" I lost absolutely no mph at the track. Plus you will hear of Alot more 12 bolt failures them the 9"

get a 9.
i have a 12 in mine and have broken it way too much. looking for 9 inchers right now
first time it broke the spiders broke and took out the carrier. next time i crushed the crush sleave and broke the ring gear. after adding a spool, solid sleave triple seal it still breaks ring gears at will

12 bolts whine after to much abuse. id rather a 9" even a junk yard 9" is stronger than anything you will try to throw at it

We can build you something that you can grow into with out spending tons of money now and even more later. If you consider the price of our fabricated nine inch to any other housing style out there you will realize you are coming out ahead.

THIS! If I had it to do over again, I would of went with MWC, after my Moser 9" and UMI TQ arm I was already over what their set up cost

If you want to see the rear this year, you'll want to order a Moser rear. Moser rears are shipped out just two days after the order is received, not two to three months... If you don't already have a good aftermarket torque arm, then a Moser fabricated rear is a great way to go. Not only is it as light as the 10 bolt, but the torque arm is an excellent design. The Moser M9 housings are made from 1/8" thick laser cut mild steel, which is fabricated from one Triangulated piece of metal (not a bunch of scrap odds and ends like some other brands) and combined with a 3/8" thick face plate. The M9 comes standard with internal gussets and bulk heads. Bob

Waste-o-time and money getting a 9" for a street car with any power level. Radials on the street will always break before a 12 bolt. You can do all the launches you want to, 50 launches a day, the 12 bolt will last forever. You can't hook on the street with normal full psi radials.

I have ~100 more RWHP then you and my 12 bolt has been getting its *** kicked for 8 years straight, every single day. My only car in 8 years. 150,000 miles on that rear-end.

Either one will be find in my opinion. I daily drive with a 9 inch in my TA except during the winter time of course and it's find to me. Good luck with your decision.

big difference. my axle worked great in a low 8 second car. now its in a low 10 second stick car and i can break it on nitto's

There are a bunch of options out there for sure, most will work just fine for what you are doing. In the end picking a company that is out their testing these products and will be here for years to come for support is key.

We are direct with Strange and Moser and will match if not beat anyone's prices, don't be afraid to ask. If you are on a time frame then getting a rear end with limited items might be the way to go and I will be glad to sell you something from Strange or Moser.

If you want something built based around your needs that are built from scratch because we can and will alter items for the customer if need be, then our built housings built and sold by us then our housing package might be the way to go. We also offer future discounts on other items from our own built in house suspension pieces to other items from the manufactures we are direct with.
