Good link and i like it better than the Currie but with a 3-4 week wait till it's made that is just a little bit to long for me to wait.

Edit:Just ordered the Currie one and it will be here on Tuesday or Wed.

I wish the pictures on their site were a little larger. Their torque arm looks decent too and the price isn't bad.

It was a week and a half ago when I ordered it. It's not like I want to drive my car now anyways, especially with a foot of snow on the ground.

Well, cleaned on my car all day Sat. because its going to be nice here all week and I was going to drive it to work. Since it was up on stands it made it easier to clean. Anyway, when I got done I took it out for the first drive..... Gears started making noise at about 10 MPH. The noise was better at about 50 - 60 MPH and was there on decel as well. The Posi was "moaning" and chattering with any turning at all. I didnt even put 10 miles on it before I turned around, went back home and pulled the center section. I checked the pattern on the gear and it was dead on. Back lash was about .010, which is with in spec.

After doing some research and calling Quick Performance I feel better about the posi. First of all I should have used 80 90 GL5 conventional gear oil instead of synthetic 75 80. I did put in a tube of Amsoil LS aditive, but I also didnt drive it enough to really get it in the clutches. As far as the gear noise, Quick Performance said they havent had any trouble with the Richmond Excel gears. But, I think everyone knows the reputation Richmond has for noisy gears. They told me that the pinion shim I had in was good and that most of the ones they setup usually need around a .016 to .021 shim. Mine is .020. They also said that I should close the back lash up to about .007, the Richmond manual says .008 to .010. He said that once ther bearings break in that the lash will open up some and be within spec. So, after reading all the horror stories about noisy Richmond gears I decided to buy a set of Yukon 3.75's. I didnt want to put it back together and the Richmonds still make noise and them pull it again to make a gear change. I took the posi apart too so that I can soak the clutches in some additive so they will calm down when I drive it again. The Yukon gears are supose to be "quiet" gears. I have Yukon 4.10's in my truck and they are silent. As far as the Richmonds Excels, they are cheap, I guess its like they say "you get what you pay for".

Other than that the car had a different feel in the rear. It just felt really soild back there. Since I was mad about the gear noise I let it eat a little and it just hooked up. Felt really good. I dont know if its the difference in the weight back there, the posi unit, or me boxing in the LCA's. Maybe just a combination of it all. I can't wait to drive it again.....Hopefully without any noise....

I bought my Yukons here. They had the lowest price I could find and free shipping. The 3.75 is more expensive than all the the other ratios. If figured why not, just another $300.00. I already have a fortune in this thing whats a little more going to hurt...

It should be a good gear, a little better then the 3.73 and 3.70.

I just hate the little clearance that it has over the third member. I may have to clearance mine, I don't think I can move my mount being a tunnel mount unit.

Thanks for the reply.

Just another update, well I drove my car to work today. With a noisy rear end. I have had the center out of it twice with the Yukon gear for noise. This gear will not setup right. I have moved every way possible to try to get it quiet and it just wont happen. So I called Jawsgear and spoke with a rep...

http://www.jawsgear.com/

He told me that if my car was in his shop right now that he would put a Motive Performance gear in it. Orange box. He said that is the gear that they are having the best luck with right now. I asked about Yukon and he said those gears are made in India. So, I got off the phone with him and called Moser. I talked to a technician there that sets up a lot of their rear ends. I asked him the same questions and got the same answers. For an aftermarket gear buy the Motive performance gear. I asked him about U.S. Gear and this is what he said, "You did not hear this from me but they are out of business and if you buy a U.S. Gear ring and pinion right now they are made in China". He also went on to tell me that almost all the gear manufactures right now are sending out crap because they are cutting costs which means taking out some of the machining processes on the gears. He said that it’s a shame because this is what they have to deal with every day and that it is due to the bad economy. The American gear manufactures can’t afford to make the gears the way they used to just 5 or so years ago. If they did we would be pay $500 - $600 for a ring and pinion.

He also told me that if I could find an original Ford ring and Pinion, 3.70, that i would be good to go. I know where there are around 10 trucks that all have 9" rear ends in them. My local Pull-a-Part salvage yard. May head over there after work.
