Building a junkyard 9" compared to 8.8
#261
I have fixed the problem but have yet to put the rear end back in the car. The axels were too long and hitting the block inside the trac loc posi unit. I am going to wait till this fall then stick it back in there. Right now I am beating the snot out of a 10 bolt with 3.73's in it just to drive the car for the summer. I have a brand new set of Motive 3.90 gears sitting in my garage for the last 5-6 months just waiting to go in.
I am building a 383 LT1 for a friend right now and need to get him done. Also just enjoying my summer and dont feel like messing with it right now. Not to mention its like 115 degree heat index.

Can you give me some more info on where you got the gear that you machined for the ABS sensor to put on your yoke? I need to fab one for a 12 bolt conversion. (1969 Impala housing)

As far as making the ABS work, I did some searching and found that you can mount a gear or sproket on the yoke and move the abs sensor out to read off of it. Its seems prettty simple. As far as I can tell I need about a 30 tooth sprocket. You divide the number of teeth on the factory ring, which I think is 110 (I havent counted just found it by searching) by your gear ratio. For me it would be 110 / 3.70 = 29.7. I dont think you need the exact number of teeth, as long as its close give or take 1 tooth wont hurt. I found this gear, I can machine the center out and press it onto the yoke, then mount the sensor off the pinoin suport with a home made bracket.

Thank you very much!!! I'd read a little about this, but never knew where to get the gears from. It may be easier for me to mount mine on the slip yoke end than the pinion end, but either way I have some more to go on now. A machinist friend can help.
Awesome work on your 9" so far. Maybe it would have been cheaper to just buy one, but you can say you built it....you'll know it's built right....and you didn't have to come up with all the money at one time.

Rear end has been in the car for over 3 years now and doing great. Takes anything I throw at it. The key to no noise is running the backlash as tight as you can get it. Good for the street but maybe not so much on the strip.
