Default Can you use stock driveshaft with MWC 9" rear end?

I have a 95 Z28 M6 with the aluminum 1LE driveshaft. I have been researching rear axles for a bit now and am leaning towards the Midwest Chassis 9" over the S60. Do I need to shorten or replace my stock driveshaft with the MWC 9" rear? Is it plug and play with sway bar, brake lines, control arms etc.? Thanks!

Jeff

you will twist that factory aluminum driveshaft so fast it wont be worth shortening or lengthening it, and Im pretty sure the stock shaft only works with a 12 bolt, but not 100%.

i believe with the 9in. rear all you need to do is change your "u" joint..stock driveshaft should bolt in.

the stock shaft will work, but it is a bit short, and more important- is weak for sure. a stock driveshaft is made of thin wall aluminum and is not intended for performance use. it goes lie this... if you have the need for a 9 inch rearend, then you have the same need for a good driveshaft as it becomes the weak link. if you have a driveshaft failure, then the cost of the damage will be more than the good driveshaft costs, then you still have to buy a good driveshaft when its all said and done! if your budget doesn't allow a good driveshaft at the time of the rearend purchase, then run the stocker until you can swing the new one, but keep you foot out of it until the good driveshaft is in the car. we offer driveshafts at a discount with rearend orders.

+1 I broke my drive shaft with my stock rear end, at about 80mph, not a good time!! Bent my adjustable torque arm, cracked the tail housing of my transmission, destroyed my y-pipe, and put a few holes in my floorboard.

Did you have a driveshaft safety loop?

yes, but that doesn't help when it breaks right in the middle of the drive shaft. the drive shaft twisted in half.
