31 spline "soft locker" you'll never even know its there.

35 spline - kinda like driving a 66 farmall tractor and dumping the clutch.

Lockers were installed from the factory in pickups in the late 60's and early 70's. They were commonly called No-Spin differentials. They are not so bad if you drive sane. They are very bad going around a corner in the rain if you "goose' the gas.

One of my street hot rods has one, runs high tens and drives fine. My other street hot rod has a spool. For the street the locker wins.

After I switched to AMSOIL's 75W-140 heavy duty synthetic lube, my locker is a bit better but its not for the timid. Everyone thinks my panhard bar got lost when I take em for a ride.

I have a moser 9" with a 35 spline "soft locker" Its not all that bad. Most for the time I forget its even there. Once you learn how to drive it for the most part its pretty easy and painless. Atleast you can have the piece of mind that its never going to break.

Just what is the difference between a soft locker & a regular one? I heard lockers & 6 speeds do not go together. Thats the reason I didnt go this route, I really wanted one but I heard they dont work so good with the manual trans.

From what I understand the soft locker has some sort of preload springs that stop or lessen the noise. Some people say the lockers and six speed cars dont mix because on some cars it causes shifting problems. I only get notchy shifts for the first couple shifts when the transmission is stone cold for about 30 seconds then all good after that. they do make some noises due to all of the backlash in the locker itself. I love mine and like I said once you know how to drive the thing I dont think its a big deal. My friend had a 6 speed locker car and he is the one who recommended it to me. Do a search you will find people either love them or hate them.

I just took my Detroit Locker out of my 9 inch this weekend and replaced with a Wavetrac. I havn't driven it yet with the wavetrac, but I can tell you what the Detroit was like. Donuts are no problem... As long as you are in the throttle it won't come unlocked. Driving on the street kind of sucks, its clunky when going from drive to reverse, the tires chirp when parking and with all the slop in the driveshaft it can create some tire chatter upon light tire spin. Mine was a 35 spline 9 inch model.
Once the roads here in NH get swept and I verify the wavetrac doesn't have problems I'm going to sell my Detroit.
