Default Motive 4:10's

Thinking about running 4:10's in my DD, M6, bolt on, 02 SS... My factory gears are noisey, at least i think it's them. Just worried about how long they will last and how bad that will affect my MPG's. Along with what it'll do to my gear length through 4th. I've pretty much heard all around that 6th will still drop to 1900 an cruise. If anyone has any experience with these or input on other options I'd appreciate it. I've read on people swapping to 3:73 in the A4's but can't seem to find anything on the M6's... TIA

i had a m6 car with 4;10's and loved the drive with it, never had any problems out of it, very fun to drive.
and far as gas milage i got 20mpg out of mine with full exhaust, i didtn think was to bad with that low of gears.

if i had a m6 again i would go with 4;10's if it was me.

Well my 3:42's are noisey now, so I'm using that as an excuse to upgrade. (assuminng it;s the actual gears making the noise) and I'm not looking to be NASCAR zoom zoom guy, just a little extra get up and go... I've heard 4:10's do great things but break easily...

Its not the brand, its the nature of the gearset. 4.10 gears have smaller teeth.

I had a set of 4.10's in my car when I got it, hammered them pretty good and they never whined or broke, but thats only with bolt ons and street tires, no clutch dumps either. What ended up blowing apart was the differential, the Auburn finally gave up the ghost.

I'm not even sure what the "auburn" is... What's the difference between 3:90's and 4:10's? I mean I know the basics but is the difference that big? I never really dump my clutch anyway. CAn't ever get traction that way, I usually ease into it then lay into it little by little... I'm not a track kinda guy...

my 98 Z28 didnt come with the "auburn" posi in it, it was open rear. still have the rear at my parents place in the barn, one reason why i with different rear that came with 4:10's

Yep and i think that is one of the benifits to a 98' fbodys because 99's & later, which have a Torsen carrier, requires a 'modified' paddle to use 4.10s'..

Someone correct me if im wrong

All V8 equipped F-bodys from '93 on up all had limited slip differentials from the factory.

Sounds like someone swapped your rear from one out of a V6 F-body!!

that could be true, but would the v6 rear end come with the 3:42's?

but also that would make since if they did come with the 3:42's

Kinda, Auburn is more like the 'type' of posi unit, auburn uses a clutch or clutches , The cones in the Auburn are used to create friction just like clutches i guess ... Torsen (99' and up) is a torque biasing diff, which doesnt actually work unless you are applying torque.

So my 02 is the Torsen? Assuming it's still stock. I need to read up on this lol

I love the hood btw, what's it called?
