Anybody running a 4:10 rear end??
I have a 1998 Camaro SS with the 3:42 rear end.
I'm looking for a little more low end and was thinking about changing rear gears to 3:73 or 4:10.
I have a 6 speed manual trans and now only tach around 1500 at 60 mph.
If my calculations are right I shoud be taching about 1640 at 60 with 3:73 gears or 1800 with 4:10 gears.
I don't feel that 1800 rpm at 60 mph seems too steep????
How much diffeence will I see in gas mileage?
Just wondered if someone else is running this set up...
Also someone stated that I need to reprogram the car if I change gears.........is that correct?

Do a search, plenty of info on this. On a street car you will see a good difference. The car will even drive better. When you step up to a cam, its going to be almost mandetory you do this anyways.
Gas milage will change but it all depends on driving style.
I have a 12 bolt and considered 4.30's due to race weight and running Cam only w/ 100-150 shot and would have been ideal.
Flat out you will like it, just be easy on the rear end.

4.10s are a nice kick in the pants and fun to drive..
HOWEVER.. they are weaker then 3.73s.. and they are also the only 10bolt gears ive managed to break street driving.... granted i drove around with drag radials on and was abusive, but they are significantly weaker then 3.73s.
so.. if you're not like me and easy on "launching"... go for it.
if you are a bit abusive like I am, save yourself the heartache and either wait until you can get a 12bolt/9" or go to 3.73s..... personally ive learned its best to wait... or atleast keep a spare rear handy.

Had 4.10s in the rear on my car (h/c car)
Loved the acceleration and the feel, hated the worry. I ended up breaking them, on the street, on street tires, with a clutch that drives like a 4500 stall converter..... Rear was the last thing I was expecting to go lol.

Im getting it rolling to about 10 mph or so and then stabbing it in first. It will chirp them a little in a straight line and I can now powerslide the back end out around a corner which I couldn't do with 3.42s. My tires are over 11" wide each though and the KDW2s are pretty sticky for a street tire. With 3.42s I could boil the stock back tires off with a 1500 rpm clutch dump, havent tried it yet with the 4.10s but it should be ridiculous on stock tires.

yup stock Auburn carrier, even though I think mine had a torsen originally. Im going to put a Torquer 2 and LTs on soon and we'll see how long it holds up. When I blow this one up it will be time for an S60/9" and then I can go ahead with some heads and maybe nitrous.
