Default 4.10s vs 4.30s for the 10 bolt?

I love doing burns and my stock 3.42s don't like to spin my 295/35r18s. What gears should I get for the 10 bolt 4.10s or 4.30s? Car is an M6 and sees almost no track time and is always on street rubber. Before you say 12 bolt or 9" I don't have the cash for that so the 10 bolts getting some gears. Are Richmonds quiet if installed correctly? This is what my installer prefers.

i had richmonds and they were noisy. when i broke them i got motives and they were quieter. i set up both sets. any way. the richmonds were 3.73's and the motives were 4.10's. loved the 4.10's and put them in my 12 bolt .

I would get 4.10s. My buddy's car with 4.10s would blow the tires loose at any speed in first gear and some of second on street tires. 4.30s are a bit excessive IMO, and theoretically weaker than the 4.10s.

EDIT: As previously mentioned, Motive gears are supposed to be quieter, and just as strong if not stronger than Richmonds.

If you get 4.30's, say goodbye to daily driving. Gas mileage will go down the drain, and exhaust drone will be unbearable. If you really want to upgrade, look into 3.90's or 4.10's.

4.30s are fine for gas mileage with a m6 whoever says there not doesn't know what he's talking about. My turns about 2150rpms @ 70mph with 4.30 gears. When I had 4.10s it would turn around 2k @ 70mph so there's little to no difference between them.

If its on a 10 bolt just do 410s there a lot cheaper for the gear id go as cheap as you can incase you end up breaking them anyways. If it was a stronger rear Id say invest in some 4.30 gears mine are awesome street traction is ok on nittos

Thanks for the help guys. I didn't realize the price difference between them until I looked so I'm going to go with the 4.10s. I plan on using the SLP kit because they are OEM AAM gears and should be the quietest plus there is not much price difference. Im also going to get the solid pinion spacer and a TA girdle, hopefully it will stay together for a while

If you don't want to put sticky tires on it, don't bother. Especially 4.30s.

4.10s + street tires = 1st gear all spin until like 25mph. Nitto drag radials will work, but not "regular" street tires.

^ agree with above. Also agree with the gas mileage statement. I have had 4.10s and now have 4.30s in a s60, and will never go back to anything else. 4.30s are amazing with a larger cam. Gas mileage in an f-body? What is that?

I just installed AAM 4.10's last weekend. They make zero noise, in fact they are quieter than the 3.42's they replaced. Although I only have about 100 miles on them and still breaking them in. I also used a Ratech solid pinion spacer.

Thats pretty much what I want, like I said in the original post I like to do burns. I've got 295/3518 kdw2s that are pretty sticky for a street tire and they're like 12 inches wide a pop. The 3.42s along with the tall first gear in the T56 just don't like to light em up. I think even with 4.10s it won't spin unless I really get on it, they are very wide tires. Also I'm not worried about gas, If I was worried about that I would have bought a prius, plus with 6th gear it should only be running around 1900rpm on the highway.

American Axle & Machine (AAM) is the OEM manufacturer of the gears and the rear end housing for GM. The gear sets SLP used to offer for the 7.5 10 bolt were AAM gears. SLP discontinued these gear sets. I had a local rear end shop that has a weekly order with AAM get my gears for me. I think Jawsgear sells them also.

The AAM gears themselves are great, nice and quiet. As far as the jump from 3.42 to the 4.10s right now I'm not in love with it. I have to give them some time but right now it's 50/50 whether I keep them or go back to the 3.42. I am glad I didn't spend $2800 on a S60 to find out I don't like 4.10s. I also have my complete 3.42 rear end as I built the 4.10s in another 10 bolt.

What don't you like about them?
