Default Another 8.8 build done. Yea Haaaa!!!

Here are some pics of my 8.8 build.

Started with a 00 Exploder donor 8.8. Cut the 8.8 tubes off about 10 inches from the center section. Then set my stock 10 bolt on jack stands and leveled up the pinion face and got my axle tube angles. I got that by placing a angle finder on each spring perch. I come up with 4 deg. on the left side and 3.5 on the right with pinion face at level. I measured from center of pinion to the backing plate flanges and got 30 1/8 on the left and 29 1/8 on the right.

I had sleeves made where they would go up into the 8.8 and the 10 bolt tubes would go up into the sleeves. I set the 8.8 on jack stands next and set the pinion face at level and each tube at level and proceeded to put the 10 bolt tubes into the 8.8 housing using the factory 10 bolt measurements.

Before final weld everything was trued up and diff was assembled just as it was on the car, axles in, rotors on, brakes mounted etc.... We made sure everything was leveled and at the right angles and a friend of mine who welds for a living welded these tubes up. After the welding was done, the axles still turned smoothly with no binding and all measurements where the same as the factory 10 bolt.

I was able to use stock style 10 bolt axles, brakes, calipers and the whole nine. The only thing that changed is that I had to get the precision 447 u-joint to fit my drive shaft.

The TA mount is a simple clamp style with a few braces welded to the housing. And also modified the TA itself to get into the tunnel.

Prices on the build as follows-

donor housing- 150.00
Ford Motor sports 4:30 gear 185.00
Yukon dura grip posi unit 300.00
axle bearings- 40.00
axle seals- 20.00
fluid- 40.00
additive- 15.00
u-joint- 25.00
diff cover 90.00
Timkin bearing install kit 100.00
machine work sleeves- 70.00
fab work on housing and TA mount 100.00
sandblasting and paint 75.00

Stomping the crap out of it and the rear end not fly apart........................-
"PRICELESS"..............

I have about 1200. bucks and everything is new except the factory axles. They will be replaced next. And yes you can use your factory axles with a Ford 8.8 28 spline unit as long as you use your factory 10 bolt tubes in your build. Good luck to anyone else who attempts a build. It's worth it....

Looks good. I'll be interested to see how the TA mount holds up. Nice work!

Very cool! I am just getting started on mine. Got a donor 10 bolt and a donor 8.8. Plan to start cutting over the holidays. And ordering parts in the new year.
