Default Trutrac or wavetrac? Trutrac junk?

So I have a 9 inch in my car that I bought used. It has a Trutrac in it now that has started to make popping noises when starting from a stop while turning. I have read a few post about trutracs being junk. I talked to Bob and also Moser the other week and they recomemnded a wavetrac. Gosh they are expensive. My buddy is a big Ford fan and he swears by the trutracs and has never had a problem with them in the 8.8 stuff and he personally ran one in his 9 second 6spd 04 cobra with over 900 pounds of torque. Heck my car is just a litle cam only 6spd car with a small shot. Nothing compared to his. What is so bad about the trutracs and what goes bad in them? I havnt pulled mine apart yet to see whats messed up in mine. They are like more than half the price of a wavetrac and im not rich so you get the idea. Also will the wavetrac fit with the same axles and gear I have that was with the tru trac?

More & more problems w/ True-trac's are being posted as they age. Biggest problem I have is the play in them. At parking lot speed, the drive shaft dithers a few degrees either side of center due to clearance in the True-trac. It also clunks more than it used to. As to performance, it's fine. It's the slop & the clunk that bother me. I e-mailed 'em about it once & never heard back.

If cost is an issue, why not go w/ the stock Ford Trac-lock & just maintain the clutch disks as needed?

The Wavetrac is costly.

of course a wavetrac is a better option, but there are a few other options for you as well. Give us a call and we can discuss maybe a more affordable way for you to go.

You have to keep in mind different rear ends and suspension have different effects on differentials. It isn't always a HP issue. What you are going to be looking at is different axles lengths for different differentials.

I was worried about the length of axles as well. Will a wavetrac not fit the same length axles as a trutrac?

The Wavetrac in the link here will work with your case and your 31 spline axles.

The Trac-Loc shown here will also work. It can't handle the power the Wavetrac can, but it is rebuildable. I have guys running them at 550 rwhp. After the parent company of Truetrac was sold back in '05 or '06, my customers started having problems with their Truetrac's. I don't know what changes were made to these diffs but it got really bad for a while as I sold so many of them. Bob

The wavetrac is money. May be a little pricey but it is worth it.

Different differentials use different length axles. Once changing differentials you will need to check axles lengths.

Depending on the amount of street driving you do, alot of guys are happy with a full spool.

Its the strongest option and also the cheapest.

The Wavetrac and the S-Trac both perform the same and carry the same warranty. The nice thing the Wavetrac has is it can be purchased in 31 or 35 spline. We have sold quit a few 31SPL Wavetracs for upgrades to consumers that already had something different.

We do have a rebuildable billet clutch posi that is 31SPL that guys have used all the way up into the 800HP range but how you plan on using your vehicle will clearly change the fact if we would recommend using it.

Wavetrac it is. They are expensive but you can't argue with a lifetime warranty.
