How much can my 10-bolt take?
I have 4.10's in the stock rear-end and I'm making ~380rwhp. I know it's not that much power, but I've heard how notorious the rear-ends are for breaking. I rarely ever launch it hard from a dig and I haven't run it at the track yet, but do you think it would be safe to do some burnouts and launch on DR's at the strip as long as i don't dump the clutch too hard?
I used to have a stalled auto that I beat the hell out of and ran at the strip several times and never had any problems. I know the autos are more durable though. What are your guys thoughts?

ya i think you will be fine. i really never see them break unless you hook. If you dont hook it normally doesnt break. Burnouts dumps at 4000 rpm should be fine. not saying it wont break there is always a possibility.....

in my 2000 SS M6 my stock clutch & rear end starting to be not very happy with me @ about 380rwhp......and that was with about 9500 miles on the car.
if you dont have the money to fix it,dont put sticky tires on it at the track....sticky tire alert!
good luck!

Mine has taken quite a bit of abuse at my power level.. 3 years worth, probably 25 passes~ and a handfull of nitrous passes (1.6/1.7 60's 500whp). I make sure to have very slight engagement of the clutch before letting it go. Completely stock rear with 3.73s, no girdle or anything. It does whine a lot now though.

i just sold my 8.5 10-bolt. 31 spline rear axles. Eaton posi 3.73's built by pro-gear in san diego with a T/A cover. They said 550HP max in that configuration. It was a great rearend for average street car running 400HP.

In stock form mine broke twice, the first time with the factory tires on low pressure. Now with the setup I have I am just praying it will handle the stock tires and NO launches lol! I do believe you can get a few good passes on them but it is only a matter of time before those little 7.5 " gears say "IM OUT"...........thanks GM
