Hey everyone, I need to do a fluid change on my rearend and I'm having trouble finding the Three Bond #1216 sealant for the diff cover now. Does anyone know of a suitable replacement? Any help would be appreciated.

It's my understanding that you can't use a paper gasket with an Auburn and AAM diff cover. The paper gasket covers up the cooling ports and can burn up the diff. At least according to the supplemental owner's manual and a decade of experience. By the way, I neglected to mention that my car is an '02.

Specs arent the same. Blue has to be the worst as far as durability, black is better but I would use the gray RTV, it is no doubt the strongest & made for it. Why its usually called gear & axle RTV. If you cant find it at local parts stores GM, Ford & Chrysler dealers sell it.

These look substantially the same to me.

That Permatex Gear Oil RTV looks like the right stuff for a diff, never seen it before.

I called SLP today, and Joey told me anything that meets OEM specifications, oil resistant, and is sensor safe will work. So I went with the Permatex ultra black. Thanks a lot for all the input guys! Now I have another question, what gear oil are y'all running? I have found conventional oils but they all seem to have limited slip additives in them already which concerns me a little. I bought two bottles of the ACDelco additive at the dealer today, and I just don't want a combo of stuff that doesn't mesh well together in there. Any suggestions?

I know to use conventional oil bro, but my problem is that all I'm finding have limited slip additive in them already, and I'm not certain if that's okay or not....

Last time I did my rear end I used this, didnt even know they made it until I looked.

And for the fluid, I used regular dino gear oil as the Auburn website says and 2 bottles of gm posi additive, yes 2 small (3oz) bottles. Quiet and no issues.

I have used the stuff with the additive premixed & I never had a problem, you can do it either way.
