What is the failure mechanism? Looks like typically an axle in this thread or is it more random where the center is just as bad? I can get some new Moser axxles for a great price but by the time you start adding pieces, axle, center, cover, etc I might as well get a heavier rear.

It depends. 4.10's will break before the axles. Now here is the tricky part, 4.11's are stronger than 4.10's. 3.90's is what I have and apparently they are stronger than the axles. Auto's are fine with 10bolts, m6's not so much.

So let me ask you all this (sorry OP) I have a Detroit Truetrack with the stock 10...could it likely withstand a 125-150 shot if I only hit it from a 2nd gear roll? No launching or spraying in 1st..just 2nd on up

Stock 10 bolt with auburn style posi, s-10 3.73 gear. Solid pinion spacer, ARP carrier studs, TA girdle.
I've pulled dozens of sub-1.55 60's in it this year, and friday night I pulled some 1.49 60's.
Been a best of 6.83@99.8

Anyone running 1.6x 60's who blows apart a 10 bolt behind a foot braked auto isn't setting them up right.

not a F-Body but this could also be a good example... My cousin has a 06 Silverado with a factory 10 bolt differential 3.43s and he is pushing around 500-550 RWHP at 10psi with a 76mm Turbo in a 5.3 short block on Meth and that differential just wont break down! He do a couple of runs during the week on the street and on the weekends at the track and up to now he hasnt had any isues lol but it could give up on him at any moment, BIG RISK lol
