12 bolt vs. S60 vs 9"
Have an 02 WS6 M6. Most I will have on car is 500RWHP realistically. Just going over options for rears. I do know the M9 and MWC fan 9 are basically if god gave birth to rear end but they are out of my price range. I do know I want 4:11 gears. Would like a wave trac but don't know if its over kill. Going to be street driven mostly. Will a tru trac or posi be better? I have a chromoly shaft for a 12 bolt. I know I will need new shaft for 9 or s60.
So what's pros and cons for each rear and what should I be looking for?

From what I've been reading online it seems silly to go with a 12 bolt. And there seems to be an argument on which rear 9/S60 eats more HP and torque.
Which one drives more like stock with less noise S60 or 9?

If your end goal is only 500rwhp then I would just find a 12 bolt used and grab it.
You could always benefit from a 9' or s60 but for only 500rwhp just save the money and buy a used 12 bolt for decently cheap. That's what I would do.

New 12 costs 2500 at least but so does S60...and a 9 costs right at 3 if not a little more...shouldn't I do overkill now than buy 2? I'm still searching for lightly used rears but can't find any I can use

I decdied to go 9" because used parts are easier to find and its a lot easier to pull the thrid member to change gears instead of doing it in the car or pulling the whole rear. I have changed the ring and pinion in the car and pulled the rear end too many times on these car for me not to have a third member for my car. Just some food for thought.

Thanks for the replies. How often would I have to change parts on a new rear? I'm hoping for an install and forget option. Already upgraded transmission clutch and shifter...looking to do driveshaft and rear before throwing in HCI setup.
I'm liking the S60 because then I can change suspension parts little by little. Don't know if that's true with a 9 as well.

I'm in the same boat. I'm planning on going with an S60 so I can piece the suspension together and still enjoy the car while not having to worry about the rear end. You already have a driveshaft for a 12 bolt so I would just go that route unless you plan on dragging the car. The 12 bolt will get loud after a couple hard launches at the track.
