Your car will perform best with 3.73 or 3.90. Stay away from 4.10's unless your car is really heavy......and if it is then get some weight out of it and use 3.90 or 3.73.

I do believe a 4.10 gear change would involve a new 4-series carrier also right? If you already have 3.23's from the factory any option is fine in the 3 series. If you have the 2.73's, you have to step up to a 3-series carrier also.

concerning our little 7.625" 10 bolts,2.73s' and 3.08s'(V6) came on a 2 series carrier,3.23s' and 3.42s' came on a 3 series carriers.
Gears for a 3 series carrier are available in 3.23s',3.42s',3.73s',3.90s',4.10s',4.10s',4.30s',a nd 4.56s'.
Gears for a 2 series carrier are available in 3.42s',3.73s',4.10s' as 'THICK' gears.

Go with 3.73s for great track and fun dd. 3.90s for more max effeort drag/strip and about the limit for dd use. 4.10s are too much for a dd auto imo. What gear are you running now? Converter?

if its auto get some 3:90, 4:10(if you dont care about economy) if its 6 speed then get a 3:90 at max. a buddy of mine did a 4:10 swap form 3:23 and he lost 4 tenths at the track because of traction and shifting more often. he had a manual

^ this makes no sense. a 6 speed comes with 3.42's stock and 3.90s imo are perfect for a 6 speed but people do run 4.10s in ls1's with much success. I would prefer 3.90's but the op would have an issue with a t56 and 4.10's and would easily improve his times.

I would not want 3.90 in an auto as theres no point. Gears in an auto do very little for track times unlike an m6 the stall and slip in an auto hides the gear. If the op has an auto 3.42 or 3.73 will work great for a dd/track car and then adding a nice stall will wake it up. Low gears with a converter will only tighten it up and wont do much for track times.

Gears do wonders on a auto my friends Camaro with 5:13 is proof of that if your have a 6-speed shifting is gonna slow you down. You can't out shift a computer so high gear isn't a problem. Is you have a manual with square cut gears it's a different story.
