Ford 9" in an 01 driveshaft question
Just wondering if anyone throwing a 9" inch in theirs had to lengthen/shorten their driveshafts? I'm pretty sure there will need to be a change but I was wondering which way it usually goes so I can start looking for one and get an idea on pricing and who I want to buy from.

Lengthen 1 inch, center u joint hole to center u joint hole 41.5 inch. Stock is 40.5.
Best shot is to measure for your setup. The stock setup with conversion u joint allows about 2 inch of slip yoke engagement into the transmission. You want 2.75-3 inch with 1 inch extending outside the transmission.

A slightly longer shaft will be required, and it will not be cost effective to modify your factory shaft. The actual length will depend on the pinion yoke that is on the rearend. The factory shafts are weak at best and you will be money ahead to sell it and recoup that money toward the new shaft.

To make sure you're comparing apples to apples, I only sell the PST driveshafts with the more expensive forged yoke. I don't sell them with the standard Chinese yoke. Bob

everyone SAYS to get a new one, but I've been using my stock shaft (Bob, dont yell at me please lol)
doing 6000rpm launchs is starting to scare me when i think about it. i centered the rear diff in the wheel wells which helps with the yoke engagement @ the transmission, i think i have about a 1/2" difference from stock.
So the stock one works, but safety says replace it

When that stock driveshaft splits open, you're be shocked at how thin it is. Bob

The LS1 DS engagement is more almost 3/4 shorter with a proper setup 9 inch rear. It's enough onto the slip yoke to allow you to drive the car, but I wouldn't trust high rpm clutch dumps on it with slicks.
