Default 4:10 gear question

Ok, I know this has been discussed a thousand times but I want some honest opinions. 2001 WS6 with 16k on stock 7.5" rear. I want to put some 4:10 gears in. What is the best brand and the best price. Also, what did it cost you guys to install the gears? I checked on Ls1speed.com and the prices look good but I'm just not sure on the brand. Which are the best and how much does evrything cost including install?? Car is basically stock save for exahust.
All info is greatly appreciated!

This may be all rumors, but I have heard from a bunch of vendors and other mechanics that Motive/GM will give you the best performance in a stock rear. They say its a harder steel and that they will whine less.

Mine however WHINE THEIR *** OFF due to the redneck that set them up not adjusting the lash correctly. Im pulling it apart myself to fix it once and for all. I have had so many issues with my 10 bolt though that I wish I had just gotten a 12 bolt day one!!!!!!!!!!

I heard they were a pain to set correctly. I went with strange anyhow.

I bought Motive gears from Thunder Racing based on the recommendation of a nascar engine builder. They do whine but I'm not the kind of person who is easily irritated by such things. I understand you probably want to stay away from Richmond gears. Know someone who installed those and took them back out a week later because he couldn't stand the noise. Hope this helps

Putting 4.10s in a stock rearend....You sound like me 3 years ago. If I knew then what I know now I would have saved more money and gotten the gear ratio I wanted put into a new 12-bolt or 9" rear. Just remember, There are no short cuts to any places worth going to. I know I sound like my grandfather, but trust me you will end up spending more money in the long run dealing with the crap 7.5" rears in our cars.

I did the gm gears. When first installed on my factory rear there was absolutly no noise. It was great. After heads cam and 2 hard launches at the track they sound like my little brother getting kicked off ps2..haha. I heard the gm gears have less nickel in them and that makes them less rigid. If i did it over, not get the gm. If they were noisy from the start i wouldn't be so skeptical---SNAP---!!

I think the GMs are considered a little bit better than the motive gears.

I think the biggest factor is the set up. My 02 SS has almost 22K on it currently, the Strange 4.10's were installed at just under 7K. I have 67 timeslips that I have keep track of since the install, the first 55 on the stock goodyears the last 12 on 315 Nitto's, additional bolt ons and cam swaps in bettween Even though my best 60 ft. is a 1.9 and that was on the goodyears (All the ones on the Nitto's was on a track that would'nt hook for ****(2.0's)) the car has ran consistant 12.4's at 117 mph, with the current set up . I am sure if I ever get this thing to dead hook it will either start to whine or break, but as it sits right now it is still as quiet as the day of the install. I know the days of my stock 10 bolt are numbered, but the set up is the key, and in MOST cases if you avoid wheel hop like the clap the 10 bolt might just last long enough to save for a real rear end

Ok, I finally found two sites with the gears. One of them has two sets, 'Standard' and 'Thick'. The other site does not.. LS1speed is the site that does not have the different sets... any reason why?
