Speedometer calibration after 12 bolt rear end rear end gear swap
I have a 1998 z28 with a 6.0lq9 swap and a moser 12 bolt with 3.73 gears. Just did the gear and rear diff swap and am wondering if there is any way that I can calibrate my speedo relatively cheap? Is there any sort of tuner I can invest in that could do such a thing that isn't excessively expensive? I'm new to tuning. Car has also had the coolant overflow tank removed by the previous owner and was wondering if there's any way I could recalibrate fan turn on temp as well because the radiator will overflow a little every time before the fans turn on even with a 160 degree thermostat. The vehicle was previously dyno tuned at west bend dyno here in Wisconsin but they want several hundred dollars to stick it on the dyno and adjust speedo. I would be perfectly happy with eyeball adjusting the speedo with gps if that's a possibility so I figured I'd ask!
Thanks.
Thanks.

Location would help, I will generally do basic tunes with emissions delete speedo corrections etc for cheap for local guys with hptuners. Perhaps you can find someone local who would do the same.

I have 98Z and a Hypertech, used it for rear end gear ratio changes to correct speedometer. Accuracy was questionable,OEM gears were 3.23s',went to 4.56s',speedo read 85(60 with 3.23s'),the hypertech corrected it to 66. Tried to fine tune it using the tire diameter option,no change in speedo, but torque convertor lockup was affected. The performance tune in the hypertech caused terrible performance. The coolant fan temperature actuation worked fine.
You have to buy a new one, buying a used one that hasn't been returned to 'new' state won't work on another vehicle and can only be used with the VIN of the first vehicle.
Mine is 10-15 years old and don't know if improvements have been made to newer units.

You can purchase a Hypertech speedo calibration unit for a couple of hundred dollars, or a full tuner for 300 or so. Calibration is super easy and as accurate as you want to make it. You can do a basic adjustment with gear ratio selections, then fine tune with tire diameter. I did mine with a radar detector that tells you how fast you are going when it detects radar. I just kept driving past the trooper and dialed mine in perfect. One thing about Hypertech is that you only by for one car at a time. Once you use it from new, I don't think it works on another car without paying more. I have not tested that restriction, but that is what it says in the manual.
I would think you could get a tuner to reset your speedo for a good lunch. Only takes 3 minutes.
