Also what options should I go with using the 8.8?

They are no noisier than any other rear end basically. The reason you hear about all this whining is basically from the manual trans crowd. The instant shock along with the torque arm setup can sometimes cause distortion to the ring and pinion. Same thing applies to the 8.8. If setup right, and behind a auto trans, the 12 bolt can hold a lot of power without issues. As far as options on the 8.8 rear, you'll have to ask someone else or even call Hawks. I'm not totally familiar with all the options it has

Quick performance 9" for 2300 is with eaton trutrac. Spool would be 200$ cheaper i think. And i do plan on upgrading the torque arm at a later date, im still at bolt on power so im not too worried. My 10 bolt is on its last leg so i wanna replace it with something i can grow with like what has been said. I will keep my options open, i am not rushing into anything as of now... anyone offer military discount? I do really like what was stated earlier about the resale value of the rear end. Anyone know about how much value it adds to the car? Im sure a camaro with a 9inch would go for a bit more than stock
We do offer military discounts.

I don't wish to hi-jack but I didn't see the point of starting a whole new thread when this topic was already being covered.
I am also in the market for a new rear axle and intend on pulling the trigger when I get my tax return.
Along with my savings, I have about $3,000 - $3,500 for a budget and am looking to build between 600 and 700 WHP on a 99 Z28 which will be force fed. Want to keep ABS, TCS, Disc Brakes (Duh). Looking to go with a rear ratio somewhere between 3.50's and 3.73's but haven't made up my mind yet on that. I don't know much about the spools and which one is ideal for which conditions but I don't want to sacrifice much ride quality, while its not my DD, it's also not strictly a track car either. I have heard Mosar's made alot of noise. I wasn't sure about the 9"... I have heard the 8.8" is mostly like stock and is the lightest of all variations but wasn't sure about reliability. The 9" I hear it suffers drivetrain loss.
Given my goals, 600 - 700 WHP occasional autocross / occasional strip / mostly show car behind a built 4L60E that is still intended to be streetable and as little noise as possible -- what kind of rear axle should I go for?
Also which POSI unit should I go with and why?
Same for the Pinion Yoke, The 8.8" offers a 1350 Yoke -- is that recommended?
The 9" - which spool should I go for?
Would the Strange Brakes do me any good with the increased weight of the 9"?
Actually I know this sounds kind of newbish but it would be kind of helpful if someone could give me a list of specs I should go for.

Stick with your stock brakes also as you will not want Strange for that application you mentioned. Now to the loss of going with one rear end over another. I am here to tell you that not one car will notice any performance loss based off what type of rear end you choose. Especially in a vehicle that makes less than 900whp and weighs in at 3500 pounds plus.

Price and bang for the buck truely is the Strange S60, it is the most durable housing and can be bought with the Strange S-Trac differential which is the strongest differential on the market period.
To date there has never been one broke.

A 12-bolt will make noise over time and this is the exact reason every vendor refuses to sell them today. They can not handle the side load of a torque arm any better than a stock 10-bolt and the same goes for the 8.8 because they are virtually the same rear end as a 12-bolt.

Edit: Found one on Spohn performance. Is the Detroit Trutrac the differential you're referring to? I didn't see the Strange S-Trac.

Also what about the 9" -- I'm guessing the weight on that is a deturrent on autocrossing?

A regular stamped 9 is heavy but a fab like the Moser or MWC will only be like 15 pounds heavier than a 10 bolt when running some sort of differential

Yeah the link works for me. Basically what it shows is the basic S60 with a choice of differentials. And since most people will want that over a spool, that's why I selected it.

I saw a S60 on Summit Racing and was wondering if this is the same rear end or if there were any differences I need to be aware of (especially in the fitment department).
For the 15 lbs heavier Im almost sure that won't really do anything on a track will it? Would the MWC 9" be just as bullet proof as a Dana S60?
