Tried the heating method to melt the pins out but Without success but I didn’t feel like getting it super hot either so I just used a really small drill bit and drilled them out. Worked perfect

Same here, heat didn't do anything. So I just drilled them out and then pressed the caps out with my press.

I bought the recommended ac delco u-joints #89029292 but they look wimpy compared to the originals. They look a tad smaller too.
I am note going to hammer the car, just want to make sure they will fit ok.

My reply is a bit late. I went with Dana Spicer 5-795X Universal Joint 3R Series Non-greaseable when I had my driveshaft out for clutch repair. Carefully torched to melt and extrude the injected nylon and then pressed out/in with large sockets and a big C-clamp from Harbor Freight.

What is the correct procedure? I've read that heating is no good with aluminum and using a press is the way to go, but what is the actual procedure to press them out?
I have my driveshaft out and replacement u-joints waiting. I might just take it to a shop to have them replaced, but I wanted to educate myself on what is actually being done.

The proper way is to buy a u joint-ball joint press and press them out then new ones back in. Harbor freight sells a cheap ball joint press that will work. DO NOT HEAT THE ALUMINUM!
