Default When my 10 bolt takes another dump .....

What are my options for a complete turnkey solution? The TA has almost 330k on the clock and I've rebuilt the 10 bolt twice. Hindsight .. I wish I'd have put an S60 in there and been done with it.
Speaking of the S60 with posi is this a direct bolt on to a stock `99 Trans AM, with the exception of the driveshaft? What kind of money will get me there ... with a 3.73? Under 3K?

I've got a 4L60E, Vigilante 2500 stall and Frost tune. That's it ... pretty plain Jane. Stock 2.73 rear. The last time the 10 bolt was built, I had a girdle put on it.... FWIW. I've even thought of building it myself next time ... as I'm pretty mechanical with shop and tools.

If it was me, and I had your mods and trans, I'd look for a good used 12 bolt. I've seen them go for $1500 used. Whereas the 9" and S60 seem to hold a higher value, plus they draw a bit more power than a 12 bolt.

S60 or fab9, im tore between them as well, s60 is cheaper but if you got to buy a new tq arm, crossmember ect the price is narrower

Id almost never recommend a 12 bolt. Never had one but did enough researCh before my fab 9 to decide they werent for me. However if ur goona stay under 400 wheel and not ever really launch it id have to agree with the used 12 bolt option. Dont need anything special. A basic low option 12 bolt will be plenty strong in your application and used could be had as low as 1500 or less id say

I have no other experience with aftermarket rear ends. But, I picked up a lightly used s60 from a member on here and it bolted up just as easily as the stock 10 bolt came out when I did it this past weekend.

S60 is beefy at a generally fixed price and bolts nicely into 4th gens. I have one. I cannot disparage getting a 9. The problem with the 9 is "how much do you want to spend"? If you buy the housing with axles and shop around for a 3rd member you can save a buck. Otherwise it's tough to beat an S60 with a starting price under $2,500. I'd personally skip a 12 bolt and shop around for a 9 or S60. I got my S60 / driveshaft used for $1,500 and my stock 10 bolt in trade.

I have said it hundreds of time on here for many many years. There is a reason vendors try to talk every customer out of a 12-bolt. It has a limited life in a F-body with a torque arm attached to it. We are now seeing the same issue from everyone that ran out and purchased a 8.8 which is essentially a GM 12-bolt and why you do not see a big shop manufacturing a 8.8. They are not stout enough to handle the twisting action of a torque arm and even in late model Mustangs like the GT500 the 8.8's are not surviving in stock form as we are putting bracing, 9" ends, welded axle tubes, and everything else to make them survive.

There is no doubt the Strange S60 is the best bang for the buck when it comes to F-Body rear ends. It fits in the vehicle like the 10-bolt should and the only down fall is bigger rear end diff covers.

Any stamped 9" and some on the market that are labeled fabricated but are nothing more than a stamped housing with a sheetmetal cover or backbrace will cause you all types of issues. If you purchase a 9" for a F-Body and it is designed to use a stock torque arm or a torque arm that is aftermarket but bolts on like stock it will make contact with your floor. The lower your vehicle is the worse the torque arm bracket to floorboard contact is. The only way to make a stamped style 9" work in a F-body is to move the torque arm bracket towards the drivers side and the pinion towards the passenger side which can cause havoc with some driveshaft safety loops plus the contact with the floor I already mentioned.

Time for a small sales plug but an informational one.
Our fabricated nine inch housing does not have any of those issues listed above because of our torque arm. Our housing is also the only rear end that bolts back in just how the stock 10-bolt came out. It has all the brake line tabs, clips, e-brake brackets, drain plug standard, and many more options. Like someone mentioned if you do not already have a good quality torque arm our package comes with a torque arm and crossmember to suit your needs.

We can also help you out with the Strange S60 with unbeatable pricing.

i like my fab 9. that is the best option for me, i only have 1 small complaint about mine but not necessary to go there. its still a very well thought out design......but i still feel the 12 bolt is an acceptable option if you arent worried about it being bulletproof, rarely launch it, and are looking for a budget option that is significantly better than the 10 bolt. i would only recommend a 12 bolt if it was used and a good price tho. building a new 12 bolt is pointless tho imo
