Default 323 or 373??

i have a auto 2000 camaro ss with circle d 3200 stall and 323 gear in the rear currently. I am having prc 227 heads put in my 6.0 along with ls6 intake and 42lb injectors next week!!! It currently has a cam already and I was thinking will it be worth the $$$ and labor price for 373 gear install as well? Would there be a big difference from 323 to 373. It’s a daily driver and I have drag radials for fun runs

In terms of measurable performance, it will not be a big difference at all. Expect no more than 1 tenth of ET reduction going from 3.23 to 3.73 with that 3200 stall speed already in place. A 3.73 swap will make the car "feel" stronger and make the converter feel tighter, but you won't see much actual performance improvement for the money (especially if you're paying someone else to do the install). You'd have to go much more aggressive than 3.73 to see a big gain coming from 3.23s with a 3000-3500 stall speed already in place.

I would recommend putting that money into a bump in stall speed if anything. Something in the ~4k rpm range would be more ideal for the setup and likely yield better gains, if that's what you're after.

thanks for the reply, I do agree. I had a 3600 stall but it was just too much rpms was always high and took a good bit to get the car moving. If it was a weekend toy then I wouldn’t care

I've got the yank SS3600. Hardly notice it in regular driving except backing up a hill. If I was buying another one I would be tempted to go with the 4000.

Honestly save your money and buy a good rear before wasting money doing a gear swap. I saw almost no gains when I swapped from 3.23s to 3.73s. If you are buying a built rear then yes get one with 3.73s but otherwise don’t waste your
money

You probably won't like it as a daily driver with .373 gears. Your fuel mileage will take a hit, even if nothing else changes.

I still have the factory 10-bolt, and I lost 2 MPG just swapping transmissions. The 4L80 I have now, raised my highway rpm's by about 200. That dropped my MPG by about 2. You are talking about a much bigger increase in highway rpm's with a .373 gear.

Sara (2001 Z28) has a Y3000 with 3.73:1 rear end gear ratio. It helps her go from Farfeknugen to Fukenmovin in no time at all.
